A couple of years ago, I forgot to refill my meds and went a couple of days without them. I felt fine, so I decided, "Hey! Maybe I'm finally at a place where I don't have to take them!"
(It made sense at the time, 'cause I take ADHD meds as well, so I though those were the only ones I needed)
Two weeks later, I had a panic attack at the pharmacy. So yeah.

Everyone responds differently, but in general I'd say 'no, they don't'. The main thing they do is they level out the emotions. So the lows don't get as low, so you have a bit more energy to slowly start getting things on track again.
