What are the measurements of the width? I mean, when folded over, how wide is the fabric?

Oh I am so sorry I do not remember, I sewed up this cape over a year ago. I THINK the width was 53" it was wide. I bought it in the upholstery section.

This is a great tutorial, my cousin has been asking me to make her this cape for a few months. Could you pleas give me the measurements you used to the bottom width.

Ohh I'm not sure what the measurements are, all I did was use the width of the fabric. This cosplay was made a year ago so I cant quite remember sorry!

What fabric would be the best to use to make one if these? I'm planning on making one for my cosplay and would love to know which would be best for it.

For the Cape I would recommend looking at upholstery velvet (thats what I used), Really its up to you and how much you are willing to spend. try and go for something that is sturdy and wont fray but can be washed easily. Try a woven material or even a fleece. If you look at the back of the simplicity coronation pattern for Elsa they will have some sugestions as well. I would avoid silk and shiny materials they dont really look nice on camera with a flash. I hope that was helpful

It was extremely helpful, I was also wondering what you used for the lining? It looks shiny yet solid enough for pictures.

the lining hmmmm sorry I bought this fabric a year ago so its hard to remember. it was 2$ a meter super cheap stuff I think it was just called "lining" in the fabric store. its like a stiff thin material. Try looking for waterproof lining. its for sure not silk :s best to just browse your fabric stores lining selection.

I also forgot to ask what material you used for the dress as well, I'm quite new to making clothing, in fact this is my first dress, so I don't know what to use for something like that. I'm thinking maybe satin? Or is it a wool based fabric?

This tutorial is extremely helpful, thank you so much for sharing this~!  I'm so happy there are still cosplayers out there who give back to the community and are happy to do so

yay! Im glad you found it helpful! I ran into some issues asking others for help on my ice dress cosplay and it was very discouraging when I got negative replies. Im more then happy to share my methods. Cosplay is about fun

Exactly!  The cosplay community has become so selfish and competitive that most people have forgotten about the fun part of the process and that making the costume is half the fun!  So again, thank you so much for these tutorials!  They're definitely going to be used for my future coronation Elsa

Yes so true its very unfortunate, I guess the idea of becoming an internet celebrity goes to peoples heads.

Also I should let you know that the amount of fabric I used on the cape goes with my height. I'm 5'10. so If you are shorter you probably wouldn't need as much. Unless you really want a dramatic long cape.

Ohh ok, gotcha.  Thank you for letting me know!  I'll keep that in mind when I get my fabric   And thank you so much for the watch!  It's probably going to be a while before I get to making Elsa, but when I do I hope you like it

I'm working on a similar one right now and I can't help it but 3.5 meter would be way too long...

demonic-black-cat In reply to Cwossie [2014-10-29 06:03:47 +0000 UTC]

I'm not saying people HAVE to use 3.5 meters they can use less if they want. I just did this up because so many people were asking how I made my cape and this is how I made it, alter it as you will, and yes my cape is quite long but I like it.

Well, the wig part worked really well, I struggled a bit with a braid because I needed multiple colors... but still very useful so thanks

Which clip did you use for the wig? The long or short?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

demonic-black-cat In reply to FantasyTwilight [2014-05-28 07:53:55 +0000 UTC]

for the over braid? I used the Long clip.

FantasyTwilight In reply to demonic-black-cat [2014-06-06 03:43:12 +0000 UTC]

I must of did something wrong.
Arda doesn't have a tutorial on how to remove a clip.
As I'm trying to attach the twisted braid to the wig, the top part (where the clip was) doesn't stay tight and untwists. Plus the top looks horridly too big, like it makes no sense to be seen. And I'm not sure what you mean by sewing it to underneath the wig, do you mean under as in below, or under as in on the inside?

demonic-black-cat In reply to FantasyTwilight [2014-06-06 03:54:28 +0000 UTC]

www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUvuqz… skip ahead to 3:40 to see how to properly remove the clip from the long ponytail clip.

ok, I also noticed the hair looking to big on the side, so I simply pinned it down to the wig. What you can do is cut the weft in half, carefully, and then use half the amount of hair this will help.

Yes you want to sew the weft on the inside of the wig and then do the braid twist. This will help it from coming untwisted.

Do you think this pattern or basic idea could be used for Elsa's ice dress too?

demonic-black-cat In reply to JillyBeanLovesAnime [2014-05-22 05:16:11 +0000 UTC]

the cape? Yes, I actually am making the ice dress now and I used the same principle. All I did is make the bottom pointed instead of round.
