Description This little fella turned out to be the hardest and most time consuming so far. The painting alone took me 4Β½ hours, due to paint ending up in the wrong places again and again and again... I tried to mix the proper colors, but I still have to train getting them right.

I added my left thumb as a reference for those who are curious about the size.

I named him Eddie. =3

Thank you! I'm happy I was able to make him. The clay I was using kept loosing moisture while I worked on him and I had to add water all the time. At one time he was so slippery and soft that I dropped him on the floor and flattened out part of his shell! >.<

Thanks again! x3 Eddie is my favorite out of the clay figures I've made.

Haha! The Shell was a pain in the neck. I even managed to drop little Eddie on the floor while trying to attach the humps on the shell and went all flat. I was soooo close to squashing the little guy and start over. xD

The clay I have atm is an airdrying one and since the figures I make are so small, it's a race against time to finish them before the clay dries out to much. I do add small amounts of water on the surface to keep it moist. I think I added too much on Eddie and then he got all slippery. xD
Definatly trying out some other brand of clay, but so far I've been too cheap to throw away the current brand of clay since I still have most of it left. xD

i also use just the most normal air drying clay evar xD
if i make human characters, i make f.ex. the head and the body apart from each other and attach them to each other with a toothpic when they are done =w=
so i donΒ΄t have to worry too much that the pieces will dry out too fast xD

How large are you making them? :3
My main problem with the finished figures is that they are very sensitive to crumbling. I've been pondering if working "larger" would make them less sensitive.

oh, i somethimes make them just very small (3cm) but most are about 10cm high ^^

I have no idea why I always make my figures small. With Eddie it was for sport, to see how small I could make him without loosing details.

Nicely done!

I had no idea a small figure like this can be so time consuming.

Neither did I xD;
If I'm ever going to sell these, I'll not be able to ask for a price that justifies the time spent on them. :z That's kind of bad for my living. xD

True, I know what you mean. But hey, we all know the world is not fair, don't we?

Money is not everything in life... I hope you at least had some fun making those figures (and I'm sure you got some experience).

Oh my! Eddie looks so shy...

Are you planning to make any other character?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

demiveemon In reply to bacardi709 [2010-08-22 18:16:26 +0000 UTC]

Yes. Havn't decided on which one yet. First I think I'll make some additional details for the figures I've made so far (like some surrounding water, more petals, maybe even lilies if they don't proove too hard (which I'm kind of expecting xD) and for little eddie, some rocks and seegrass).

It broke it's leg and the petal chiped in two. Spent all day today fixing it and painting it all over again. Still need to add some laquere though.

Hehe. Ye, he's caused me some headache. But I like him, eventhough he didn't turn out quiet as in the picture (headshape). Love those two hairs I managed to add at the very end. :3

Trying to get some promised work done and then it should be time for another figure. Any suggestions, who should be next?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

quim1 In reply to demiveemon [2010-09-05 16:07:48 +0000 UTC]

Suggestions? I love all the animals from Siesta, but I think few of them (like the fat crocodile or parrots) would be quite difficult to make.

The evil tiger would be a decent choice as well, but he's already inside the croc, isn't he? What about an elephant?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

demiveemon In reply to quim1 [2010-09-05 16:14:57 +0000 UTC]

I've been pondering about how to make the elephants. Thinking about making one adult and the young one, holding bananas or something (the large une holding a whole bundle, while the small holds a single one or something)
The tiger could be before it gets eaten. Atleast I'm a bit curious about it's look. The chibiform could be a possibility too. And we have the slugs! XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

quim1 In reply to demiveemon [2010-09-05 16:44:33 +0000 UTC]

I don't think the slugs would be an easy job. Their eyes would make similar problems as the tiger's legs inside the crocodile. I think an elephant or the tiger would be great addition to the Siesta clay club.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

demiveemon In reply to quim1 [2010-09-05 16:47:40 +0000 UTC]

Ye, the eyes would pose a problem... Hm, I suppose I'll have to start working with supporters sooner or later for those details that would just loose their shape while drying. I think I'll give the elephants a try next then. :3
Still working on another chibi atm, but it's not part of the Siesta Universe.
