Description

Another bolt of lightning lit the sky, long enough for him to see a ghoul lunging at him through the air, its claws outstretched. Malfus winced and held up his hands. There was a metallic crash. The ghoul had landed on a zombie carrying a bag of loot. The two undead rolled to the ground in a tangle of limbs. Malfus’s lantern spilled over the coins and wet grass as he watched in horror.
The zombie tried to crawl away, but the ghoul clawed at its back. Two other ghouls jumped on top of it, their maws tearing into the zombie’s flesh. One of them bit into the zombie’s abdomen, ripping out a mouthful of intestines. The other ghouls shrieked as they fought over its liver. A strand of intestines flew past Malfus’s head.
The carnage would have turned the stomach of any battlefield surgeon, but it was far more disturbing to watch the zombie crawling forward, oblivious to the ghouls feasting on the bottom half of its body.
