Okay, I couldn't help myself. The rules aren't limited to what you can use, just that you try to keep from using OP characters. So, again keeping the challenge of one character per franchise, this one had me going nuts because while I've played games growing up, I haven't played that much. But I think I made some interesting choices.
Team Leader: Albel Nox/Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. My only Star Ocean game in the series (and pretty much stuck ‘cause leveling up is a major bitch), Albel is my favorite character, and was also the leader of his own army, the Black Brigade. Although very cold and distant, he is capable of warming up to others he gains respect for, otherwise to him, everyone weak and often calls them “womrs” and “maggots”. He can learn a variety of powerful attacks, though everything is limited to his MP (as with other chars as well). He is speedy and strong and is a melee fighter relying on claws and katanas, but can learn some distance attacks. He’d be a valid member to any team, so long as he doesn’t see them as weak.
Brawler: Genghis Bahn III/Fighting Vipers. From a game no one has probably heard of, Bahn has appeared as a Support in Project X Zone. While he is definition of brawn-over-brains, he is a physical powerhouse, and is just an overall badass. Seriously, this guy has saved my life more times than I can count in PXZ, and he’s only a Support! Overwhelming this guy would probably be difficult as he has experience under his belt, having taken part in a tournament, and now has been sent to other worlds taking on foes stronger than he is. This guy’s just too much of a badass.
Honorable Mention: Sweet Tooth/Twisted Metal Series (except Black and onward). Also known as Needles Kane, Sweet Tooth has always been a favorite for me, aside from that sweet Dodge Viper…just give me that beautiful car. Ahem, anyway, I don’t know what it is about Sweet Tooth, but it’s probably his vehicle of choice that he has in all games: an ice cream truck with a flaming version of his head mounted on the roof. When he fires his Special Weapon, it actually laughs, as if it taunts while doing damage. Using cheats to obtain him and actually play the game without getting my ass handed to me each time, he is just a fun character; his wish at the end, to be able to eat all the candy in the world, is just hilarious…save for the fact Calypso does not play fair, and Sweet Tooth ends up in a dental office. While being 100% human, the vehicle, despite its weapons, would probably give out at some point, and Sweet Tooth wouldn’t be able to defend himself for long. What makes me think twice about my childhood pal is that it’d be awful hard to find weapons his vehicle uses so…yeah, huge disadvantage.
Weapons Expert: Leon Kennedy/Resident Evil 4. Having a similar attitude as Dante, but this time only human, Leon would make a perfect weapons expert, as well as having experience with “undead enemies”, save the ones he faced were all infected with the parasite, Las Plagas. He’s taken on those normally affected that act like zombies, to total mutations such as the ever terrifying Regenerators (and their cousins the Iron Maidens) to the final boss of the game (who is the asshole that started it all). Leon has also used a variety of weapons, granted they’re all firearms, but he’s handled pistols/handguns, shotguns, sniper/rifles, missile launchers, a tommy gun, and of course a knife. He’d be perfect to teach the others how to use guns if need be, and also direct the team in how to manage hordes, as he’s survived plenty of them.
Brains: Dynamo/MegaMan X5-6. Bet you thought X, huh? Although X is very intelligent given his more human-like mind, he is a leader for the most part, but because of his human nature, he can be caught hesitating; wile this is good it’s also bad. Not hating on my Reploid Brother though. But I feel given Dynamo’s more philosophical mindset, he’d be a better brains for the team. He knows when he should retreat from battle, and can actually read others in a fight; this would prove very useful as he can try to give advice that would benefit someone. While he only has one really powerful attack that he only uses in a pinch, he’s still strong and can switch easily from his buster to his saber. This makes him balanced, especially if a zombie were to tear off his arm; most of the time, zombies are shown with rather inhuman strength so, it works.
Medic: Jester/DMC3; Xavier Pendragon/Eternal Champions. Okay, this one’s a hell of a stretch, but hear me out. I’ve played games all my life, but not enough to really know who’d be the better medic. Like I’ve played some of the Zelda Games and junk alongside other lesser known games, but I was never the avid gamer like others can be. With magic and alchemy, respectively, comes the ability to learn to heal others. While Jester is an optional boss in the DMC Collection, you do get to see how wild his fights become, and that shield is no exception. That thing cannot be broken regardless of what Dante uses, and interestingly, the demon clown alone seems to have some considerable bulk for someone who’s speedy as all hell. His taunting would also be worthwhile as he could attract the zombies away from the group and teleport away.
Xavier, however, is slightly different. A Warlock (or Alchemist) from the Salem Witch Trials, he discovered alchemy one day and tried to show it to the townspeople…however, this earned him a burning at the stake. One of several fighters battling for a second chance, he comes packing alchemic abilities as well as Hapkido, or Cane Fighting. His cane (which resembles a snake or serpent) can be turned into an actual creature that wraps around its target and promptly bites them for quite a while. Like Jester, Xavier can also teleport as well as switch places with his foes. A balanced fighter, he would have some knowledge, if not be able to learn quickly, of how to heal others. He is also a prankster, which would be the only trait that allows him and Jester to get along to some degree.
Speed Fighter: Sly Cooper/Sly Cooper Series. Sly Cooper is perfect for this role in the group. Having abilities passed down to him by his ancestors, Sly is as his name implies. Very cunning, witty, and agile, he has mastered all sorts of abilities that would make an athlete gymnast jealous. From pickpocketing to master of disguise to just about anything, he’d be able to take care of any enemy with relative ease. Most of his skills force him to be careful about being caught as well (in the first game, one hit ends you, so it forces caution like mad), which is an important skill in a zombie apocalypse. His only weapon is his cane with a golden hook that seems to have been in the family line for generations, and it isn’t surprising he has complete mastery over it.
Mascot: Vertigo/Primal Rage. The one of many controversial game of the 90s Era, Primal Rage had it all. Giant beasts beating the hell out of each other, comical and gory overkills, and the one goal to become ruler of the world as good or evil. And also piss off your friends by getting the highest score possible. While it may have been normally an Arcade Game, Primal Rage left its mark on the Sega Console, and like other games with potential was never continued. Vertigo, a King Cobra and Dinosaur mix, is the only female in the game, and by far has the more interesting design. Her abilities include Venom Spits, Voodoo Spells, and a nasty tail slash attack; you heard me, a TAIL SLASH. Fighting against her can be utter hell as she is unpredictable and can screw you over very quickly compared to the others. Vertigo means business and is not to be underestimated. Despite her tall size, even in a zombie apocalypse she can find herself overwhelmed in a number of ways; the bigger they are, the harder they fall.
Honorable Mention: Jaguar of the Inca King/Amazon Trail. Ah, bet you would’ve never seen this one coming. While the Amazon Trail was inspired by the Oregon Trail (which I could beat effortlessly), I feel like it’s lesser known. And despite the fact I could never beat Amazon Trail (dying of sickness, drowning, or being caught by head hunters), I still like this game, with Jaguar being my only favorite character (his voice too). I’m aware there is no fighting in this game, but this thing’s a Jaguar; they’re built to kill. Although given the fact he appears in dreams and in hazy visions, you could say he has an ability to at least “teleport” in a way. Intelligent and wise, he’d actually make a decent member to the team, as he could “teleport” to wherever someone is and relay information. Of course he can still be overwhelmed by zombies (as even horses are if you’ve seen the Walking Dead), he’d still be able to kill a good amount.
Guy Who Dies First: Rayman/Rayman Series Games. While I’m sure this slot is meant for someone who someone hates, sometimes one needs to be taken for the team. I do love Rayman, but sadly, I’ve NEVER been able to beat the first game for the PlayStation; that Music Level is my bane. It wouldn’t be until Raving Rabbids where I could get back into the wackiness of the series, and it made me fall for those crazy bunnies. Yeah, it’s more of a minigame deal, but it’s still fun. Regardless, Rayman, over the years, has gained quite a variety of abilities, being able to fly using his hair, his hands being able to extend a great distance, and much more. Again, while I do still feel an attachment to this guy, I feel like he wouldn’t last too long in a zombie apocalypse. Sorry Rayman, you’re still awesome though.
The Honorable Mentions were due to being undecided. I also combined both Jester and Xavier because both their abilities are beneficial, and out of all the characters I know, they have the higher potential for learning to heal others.

Not really. David Jaffe always intended Sweet Tooth to be a dark, sinister character. TM 3 and 4 made him far more light hearted and something akin to an animated Joker with flaming hair. Just nitpicking, but his head's on fire because of a curse. If anything, the version in Black is more of what Jaffe intended. But anyways, if you haven't played PlayStation All-Stars, Sweet Tooth looks like his Black/2012 incarnation, yet manages to incorporate a little bit of the classic humor, so it's a bit of a balance even though it still leans towards the dark personality. He says some funny stuff, though (he's gets away with trash talking Kratos and calling him "cupcake"! lol).
But I'm not slamming you for liking the 3 and 4 version, all I was doing was saying that the Black/2012 version would go to town on zombies even out of his truck. lol I actually grew up with the TM3 version as well, believe it or not. TM3 was my first TM game as a kid and I loved Sweet Tooth in it, but I've simply grown to appreciate his modern incarnation better, especially in PlayStation All-Stars because he's just an evil little troll. lol

David Jaffe? I don't have PlayStation All-Stars so I wouldn't know. But I still prefer the TM3 version.

Oh I see. Never really knew who made it; just knew how to use cheats in TM3 to beat the damn game (and use my buddy). Could never beat TM4 though, with or without cheats. I'd get as far as that amazon maze jungle level, whatever the hell it was, and either die or not find enough power ups. So I looked up all the ending cutscenes for the characters, and some of them are morbidly funny.
I dunno if I can rent it (not unless I sign up for gamefly), but I've been curious about it. Just not enough money to go around.

Is he? I never got very far, so I have no clue how many stages are remaining after that amazon jungle stage.

There's only three levels after Amazonia: the Oil Rig, Minion's Maze, and finally, the Carnival.
And yes, he's tricky to beat because his special can go through walls and follow you pretty far, and then it basically just anchors itself to you and keeps attacking you continuously with ghostly henchman. You can only escape with the Hyper Space special input, or by going through a portal.
How much damage it does to you is dependant on your vehicle's strength. If you're one of the heavies, it will probably put you at just below half health by itself. If you're one of the small cars, you might die from it. The special does stop eventually, but it just stays for so long that it deals ridiculous damage. It's really cheap! lol

So I only had three more stages? Dammit all!
Oh god, it sounds like I'd be dying anyway @.@
Holy shit! Sounds like more trouble than...erm...the last boss from TM3. Though I always had more issues with Dakside 'cause you have NO WHERE TO F*CKING RUN.

At least you can get away by using a portal or the Hyper Space command, but that's it.
Yeah, at least with Primeval, you could insta-kill him by pushing him over the pit on the lower floor in the blimp.

...Have I used those before? Damn, it's been too long.
Primeval, that was it. Hmm, yeah there was a hole there somewhere, huh? That's provided the AI lets you do that.

Varia31 In reply to Deidara-Clone [2015-08-07 14:11:13 +0000 UTC]
Well, the portals are a given since they're in various areas of the map. Hyper Space is one of those special inputs you press to activate, like the freeze missile commonly being left, right, up (with an extra up in TM4).
Yep! There's that pit that just leads to the friendly skies if you fall out. It's on the bottom floor of the blimp, in one of the two main rooms down there. A good strategy is to hide behind the wall, wait for Primeval to turn the corner, and then freeze him and then try bombing him with the TNT. If you're Auger, though, you can simply drill him and send him flying into the pit much easier.

Hm, I think I may have done something, probably the Hyper Space because I just barely recall inputting something to teleport across the map...
Ah, so in the main room it places you in at the start of the battle? Lol, yeah that seems like a good strategy. I never could get used to Auger; my best three I think are Sweet Tooth (cheated of course), erm...Specter...the guy with the Dodge Viper, and Flower Power (the VolksWagon Beetle)...I think those are their names, I can't remember. I just know the cars XD

Primal Rage is so much fun though, lol. Star Ocean has been around for a while apparently, kinda like a parallel to Final Fantasy. Fighting Vipers I don't think anyone has really heard of, but it's a tournament-style game. Eternal Champions is an old Sega classic that kinda came out around the same time as Mortal Kombat. While they both had gory shit, MK was just more comical (with the thousands of ribs flying everywhere), EC was a bit more realistic with it, which is what amped up the gore factor. When I was younger and had the Sega CD, I had the second EC game, and things were more inventive in that one.

I've had a ton:
Sega/SegaCD
PlayStation/2/3
GameCube
Wii
GameBoy Color*/Advance/SP
DS Lite
DSi XL*
3DS XL
*I've had two of these. With the GameBoy, it was in my rolling backpack in the 6th grade, and I had slammed it on the ground. I pull it out and find a colorful array on my screen. With the DSi XL, I had dropped it and it fell flat on the floor; both screens only half worked.

Ugh, up until I graduated high school.
I've been in between NH and MA all my life, and my childhood home we moved into when I was about 4, then we moved up here when I was 13. So I can recall my old home fairly well (it wasn't that big of a house anyway). Though the farmhouse is "new" by only a couple years, but same town.
