I was doing some sketches the other day and one of them just happened to be decent enough to be a book cover.
I tried to aim for The Saturday Evening Post cover style. This really help me understand reflect and ambient light a little more.

You did well with this image. Love the monocle too. Had to learn to cook when I was stationed on a microwave site in Germany back in the early 1970's. A friend there taught me a few basics, then I bought a simple cookbook when I was home on leave. It has pretty much become the bible in my house. Taught my sons to cook too so they could look after themselves in the future.
The year after I graduated from high school, the admin board decided to open up the Home Economics class for boys and shop classes for the girls. My mom worked in the cafeteria at the time (they still made the lunches back then) and she said that the Home Ec teacher got better results from the boys than the girls.

As a Frenchman, I can say, never underestimate the importance of a fresh baguette. Seriously though, this is a delightful composition. The character looks gentlemanly handsome (which, I admit, is not something especially original to say about your work, but he does look gentle and manly indeed), and the whole presentation is exquisite. I dare say, he looks ready to bring on... the pain. XD
