I GIVE UP!!!ΒIf I ever happen to stumble upon the effect I'm trying SO desperately to learn, it will be a total accident. I took at least an hour to experiment - and while I think I may have come close at times...nothing. It's just not worth the hassle!
Anyway, on subject of this pic: Just another idea I came up with out of nowhere upon downloading this stage.

I don't think it's really an effect (maybe they used some shaders) but it mostly is just drawn over with gimp (I think)

if you have gimp, it just takes practice. just try and smooth out some things that are too blocky to be realistic ^_^

DeviantArt Muro? I've heard of that, but I didn't know it was an editing thing. I'll try that out sometime. Some people have told me they do it in GIMP and use Dodge and/or Burn with the lighting. I tried that, and nothing. It doesn't help that I don't really understand how GIMP lighting works though. And, God forbid I can get the hang of photoshop.
