Description I've been working with some desaturated palettes lately; this set is sampled from a photo taken on a hike to Albas Falls. The reference photo was from a hike up Mount Ida but I only used it as a basic compositional reference and painted the details out of my imagination. I think I did a little better at getting some more refined textures and detail into this one; it looks less like a speed paint than my other landscapes.
Oils brushes in Painter 12

This one is my belated Valentine's day submission, and goes out to all those who spent it as individuals. Don't get all caught up in societal pressures; there are plenty of things that are worse than being alone.

The clouds pop powerfully.

Really? Skies and clouds are not something I have a whole lot of experience painting or drawing. So thanks for the encouragement.

Would you consider using Corel's lighting filters? You seem to use a lot of textures, those filters might make it pop even more, add to the painterly effect.

And you are welcome, you deserve it. You seem to use the program in the opposite way I do. I got more for the watercolors, you the oils/acrylics. I find those paints to be very difficult to master, and you make great art with them. Keep it up.

I did use the impasto option on some of the brushes in this painting, if that's what you mean. I haven't really gotten that in-depth with the apply lighting though. I almost wonder whether the resolution of the painting too large for the brushes I used because the texture doesn't really show up unless viewed at actual size. I would definitly consider tooling around with this piece more.

I've tried a bit of the Real Watercolour and Real Wet Oils, but overall I tend to avoid them because of the increased processing time they tend to take. I need to work on patience. And I really like the smeary effects of the oils

The processing time with the watercolors does take a bit of getting used to.

Me too; thanks! I think that the impasto effect was active on a lot of the brushes I used and it really helped to make the strokes stand out, especially in the sky and water.

impasto effect?

Impasto is the "bumpiness" of paint [link] It's paint with depth and colour, instead of just colour. In a digital program it is created by the application of highlights and shadows on each brushstroke.
