Description An old wall in the Sultanahmet district of Istanbul. Seems to be rebuilt and repaired many times over the centuries. (With my luck and archeological expertise, it may be that it is just a few decades old, ofc.)

Sultanahmet'te eski bir duvar. Kim bilir kac asir boyunca tekrar tekrar yapilmis, tamir edilmis. (Tabii benim arkeoloji uzmanligim bunu soyleyen; belki bes on senelik bir seydir.)

Oh, when you walk around in Sultanahmet (which is where Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace, among other things, are) you will see stuff like this all over but you may have to beat back the hordes of carpet sellers and self-appointed guides to get to them.

Best defense is learning how to say "I am a Turk" without a foreign accent.

Well, that could work if you say it in Turkish, and use the word "Rum" (person of Greek ethnicity living in Turkey) instead of "Yunan" (citizen of Greece). Otherwise you are still a potential customer to be plucked of her cash.

Well, the main thing is to pass yourself off as a local, wise and cheap. As long as you do that, you can say that you are a black eskimo.
