Description Really though! Imagine some lil' Japanese man busting into your office and screaming: "I've got it! A fucking BLUE hedgehog! Yeah, he's REALLY fast and, uh, he's a got a sidekick--a, um, two-tailed fox! The villain is called Dr. Eggman! I'm on acid, baby! Yeah!"

Videogames had more character back in those days, and I think it may have had something to do with cocaine and too much hairspray. And perhaps less corporations telling everyone what's best for them. There was just more room for creativity in the 80s and 90s, but the advent of the AAA-list game changed all that...

It's not that bad look at all the amazing indie games coming to PS4 and if you think GOW isn't creative I have no respect for you.

Hmm... I'd need a full dossier on you before retorting properly. For instance, I would need to know that you are over the age of 25 and know what the Sega Master System is. Dude, not to sound like a old fogey, but I've lived through the Gold and Silver Ages of gaming. I remember chucking my ol' Atari out for the brand-new Nintendo Entertainment System in all its 8-bit glory. I remember thinking the Gameboy had awful graphics compared to the Sega Game Gear. I was there when the Super Nintendo and Playstation 1 co-existed in a bizarre gaming ecosystem of cartridges and CDs. I witnessed the console make arcade games go near extinct.

Anyway, there's my ethos. GoW is an excellent game franchise, but it's cookie-cutter like all the rest of those AAA-list games. But hey, Dreamworks does the same thing, and I don't mind them for it. I like me some gorgeous graphics and killer plot-lines. But I digress, all I was trying to accomplish in my lil comic was showing that game creation was (probably) more fun back in the day, before companies like Zynga turned the "industry" into a metrics-driven game of brainwashing.

I'm hearkening back to a day when you had small teams of artists and think-tanks moving a project along (in modern day terms, this would be something like Dragon's Crown or Battle Block Theater), opposed to teams of hundreds of artists all drawing a goat and then a board of directors analyzing the goats against a demographic and deciding on whether said goat would generate more sales before putting it in the game.

This is all from my own personal experience so meh!

And for the record, Gabriel Belmont would spank Kratos any day of the week! Ā

I'm not gonna bother reading all of that u obviously think everything is better in the past.
But it's ok and if Castlevania is so great why did they make it like GOW.

You're just like Congress; won't even take in the counter-argument. Look, I'll nutshell this and try and keep your attention while I do: I was talking about the videogame CREATION PROCESS--not the games themselves. Dude, games have only become more glorious over time! It's not like I'm getting down on the Magnavox Odyssey at night! Lol. I play on the PS3 and Xbox360 like most everybody else!

I think you're just upset because Sonic has no shame and waved his penis in front of Mario.

And if God of War is so great, why'd they make it like Prince of Persia?

You know what? Let's not go here. I take it back.

It was just a comic. I was exaggerating, stereotyping, and just having some fun. I don't want to start a whole debate over Old vs New. Let's just grin and part ways. Ā Ā

Never played POP always wanted to never got around to it I'm over Mario and Sonic they have been milked to death. I hope you have experience in the industry cause it sounds like you are judging them roughly times have changed things can't stay the same there's so much pressure now relax.

I do have experience and I'm super chill, mate.

I learned a lot from this little scuffle. Thank you for opening my eyes to how to effectively communicate feelings and beliefs with online personalities.Ā

Actually. Games in those days were aimed at kids and now they're aimed at adults with no imagination. Game Dave's aren't allowed to be creative because it wouldn't sell!

Everything has a formula these days. I guess I'm feeling nostalgia and probably a fair dose of envy. Every single choice I make in the art room has to be approved by at least 3 others before I can "make it so." And Hell, I'm the Art Director! What's worse--this is an INDIE project, but since we have financial backers, penises must be stroked. It's a sad (and somewhat gay?) affair. I just wish I could put my light pen to my Cintiq and create something fresh and from my own head--oh wait! I can! All I have to do is make a game all by myself!

No problem! lol

You are joking but it's a v. achievable goal. The fact that you can do art already puts you far ahead of many people who would dream of beng in your shoes. Please check out some free guides and tools like Twine and then make the game you want to. Thank'sĀ
