Ah, so you live in the same land as my friend Horo! I wonder if you are neighbors? I'm sure he said before he is not far from where Giger lives.

Yeah, I was admiring your poser stuff, I wonder what you'd make of my dabbling. I've never rendered anything in poser itself, I always export to Bryce because I have issues with poser and I don't know how to work it properly. Thanks indeed for the favourite. One question, in the War of the Worlds image, the smoke, it looked kinda like Bryce volumetrics - was that Poser too?

Yeah well, you were asking for trouble using a volumetric and DOF effect, that's a serious rendering proposition that and well done for getting it to work, often, (and I have tried a few times) DOF and volumetric materials are not compatable and the program crashes. Well if you are new to Bryce there might be something worth your attention on my site [link] in terms of resources or tuts. I'm hoping to get a few more up this month too... er... Perhaps a swifter approach would have been to use a "distance mask" to seperate the layers and render your tripod with DOF and put in the background masked... Dunno, you went for the best effect but also for maximum effort and render time there. Anyway, well done! First render - wow. Submit it to the DAZ bryce gallery if you haven't already done so and earn yourself $25 to spend on their site!

Very nice! I like this one much more than the others..
If I may dare to tell... I'd loose the white spot, maybe the whole thing over her head and give more sight on the reflection instead.
Anyways, the texture is neat - a great render!

Yes, I think I agree with you on the spot. I didn't think it was going to turn out as well as it did, I was just playing and I liked the results, I'll see if I can't work something up to address those points. I also have issues with the harsh shadow of the arm on the body I'd like to sort out so there's still plenty to keep me occupied.

Thanks, I'm somewhat stalled at the moment, I have some images to render for printing and they are taking up all my processor power. Hey, have you changed your avatar, that's nice, I like that, how did you make it?👍: 0 ⏩: 1

And processor temp - we are suffering a bit of a heat wave here on the East Coast and my computer is starting to blip at me in a warning sort of way. Oh dear.

Yikes... she looks damn scary. I have nightmares about these things, believe me. When I watched the movie Alien, I couldn't sleep by myself for a whole week. And that was 3 months ago. Don't laugh.

davidbrinnen In reply to mimi00 [2005-06-15 15:28:58 +0000 UTC]
Yes, well, as I understand it, Geiger designed the alien to make us feel uncomfortable, that prehensile tongue with teeth is... well, it's pretty obvious what that is a metphore for, I mean, for goodness sake, it's got covered in spermy goo and wrapped in ribs and veins. But, this isn't one of those, it's supposed to be more ambigious than that, perhaps even attracitive?

Riiight... well... thank you! I never really looked at it that way... but now that you've cleared that up for me... hey, are you saying that the thought of genitals makes me uncomfortable? That's so not true! Grrr.

Not quite my point, but I can see how you might think that, no the Alien is a rape/inpregnator preditor, and that should be enough to make anyone feel uncomfortable I would have thought!

I think perhaps you respond to art on a more personal level than me, where as I tend to ask questions about what the piece is "supposed" to be about in a more inpersonal way - do you think?

Hmmm... well... maybe? Remind me of an instance... give me an example. But that is an interesting deduction coz I was thinking that it's the other way around.

davidbrinnen In reply to mimi00 [2005-06-21 15:59:16 +0000 UTC]
That's only natural, you often find that people tend to project their attitudes and feelings onto others. I don't know about reminding you of an instance, I think you'll have to search your own memories and/or observe your own reactions next time you see a new image for the first time. For myself, I'm not entirely certain what we are talking about! Always loosing that thread...

It's raining - hurrah! You do know we english men like to talk about the weather, possibly as much as our french neighbours like to talk about love - possibly more? It is such a comfortable and safe subject without pitfall or trauma - why not? OK, maybe the weather is a bit dull, in most countries, but here in the UK we have lots of variety, yesterday it was hot as hell, still is, but instead of sunshine today we have lovely lovely rain, great grey sheets of the stuff, pouring out of the sky like there is no end to it. How wonderful is that?

Winter! And it is 25 degrees! Noooo.... I would just curl up and die. And it went from snow to blistering heat? That's weird. Although I've see it got from brilliant sunshine to white-over in the course of one summers day here, something of a freakish storm, but that's the UK weather for you. I didn't know it never snowed there, but like I have said, it's not somewhere that I've given much thought to. You just think of the dangerous wildlife and the continuous wars going on and are glad you live somewhere with less guns and tigers. Though possibly the tigers are being outnumbered by the guns now to a considerable degree. I hope your next mail includes some more pics - SA in snow perhaps?

Hmmm... you still think that there are wild animals running accross the main roads, don't you, David? He he. Well, to be absolutly frank, the wars you have hard about are all in the Middle East. Yup. There is a certain degree of voilence, yes, but I wouldn't say wars. It all depends where you live, in fact. If you live in a dodgy area, then you can expect gangsterism, drugs, etc. But other than that, no.
Well to be honest, I don't really have any photos to send you this time. I have to ask you to help me with that symmetry thing, though. My Paint (useless!!!) will not allow me to flip the thing. So... can I send you a pic of my face and then you do the thing for me? Would you mind terribly?

davidbrinnen In reply to mimi00 [2005-07-01 08:20:28 +0000 UTC]
Any number of things depending who you are... Nitche (I think that is how it is spelt) famously said, "god is dead" - I'm sure lots of people thought that was an unsuitable thing to say, including me! To my way of thinking, that would be like saying, "little green men have stopped visiting our planet".

Hehe... I take it we're giving examples of unsuitable things that can be said. I was lost there for a moment... what happened to my copy paste theory? When you said something about unsuitable things to say, I was thinking that maybe it was my references to sexual acts... right or wrong?
