oooooooo! youre right, the lighting in this is great! nice tones too, did those come with the film?

This is a digital image. The purple colour comes from the way the D100 sensor responds to infrared, although I do shift the hue a little when I adjust the levels.

You can usually tell the two apart by the level of grain: digital images are very clean, Kodak HIE infrared images are very grainy [link] The film images also tend to have a glow around the highlights that the digital images lack. Both have the black sky and the white grass though.

Excellent result. I have never done any infrared work. Is a big deal?

With digital: no, with film: yes. Both are interesting in their own way, and the results are very different.

I would love to try it with digital.

Most digital cameras respond quite well, the cheaper ones are often better as they sometimes skip the IR blocking filter to keep the cost down. All you need is a Hoya R72 or a Wratten #87 and a tripod - exposures tend to be on the long side.

Thanks. There are little tuble-down churches like this all over the place. Unfortunately you can't always guarantee the light.

The light is spot on perfect. Did you use a polariser to get the contrast in the sky, or did it just fall out of the camera like that?
Am always happy I keep a watch on your gallery whenever you post something new.
Cheers

The filter was a Lee #87 infrared - I think the degree to which the sky renders black in infrared does have something to do with the polarisation, it certainly seems to vary depending on the position of the sun. I do have a polariser in my camera bag, but I've never used it - I keep forgetting it's there.

I've recently gone into a polariser frenzy. I am trying to break the habbit.

I have a really bad infrared filter habit - I think I've got at least 6 of the damn things...

I have done on a couple of occasions, but I work too slowly for it to be really practical.
