Tyler is my character on

This is Tyler's three main looks so you can use for reference on what he looks like when you are RPing with him or in case you want to draw him. (clothes may vary on casual and surfer when i do more pieces)

Those who know me from before Drake Acad might find this reminiscent of my "Tyler the Prinplup" piece. Well... it was totally meant to be compared to it. As i've stated before, Same char different situation

VISUAL DATA

Casual: It's an example of what he likes to wear when uniform is not required. A solid or patterned T-shirt (if patterned the pattern must be big), with or without a jacket (if there's a jacket, nothing heavy, usually a sweater jacket), jeans and shoes, usually chucks, that match one of the colors of the outfit. The hair is messy and side-swept. He occasionally likes to wear flat caps (not featured)

Uniform (design by ): Using the combo of blue with a white shirt and tie. Only modification is a gray sweater vest (the gray is in the palette of allowed colors). With tidy hair, still swept aside but sufficiently out of his face.

Surfing (a.k.a Body Reference): Simple Boardshorts matching the surfboard he decides to use (he has many). A Surfboard of course. The hair is messier than usual due to being wet at some point or another.
* In terms of body, Tyler has a small frame and is fairly tall which make him slender. Broader shoulders than hips, bigger musculature in arms than the rest (because of swimming), and just a hint of abs.

Face and Features: Straight pitch-black hair, full, thick eyebrows, round eyes, unsaturated dark blue irises (you can usually see the whole iris), prominent nose bridge but small nostrils, somewhat thin down-turned lips (most noticeable with open mouth, like in Surfing) and a long neck.

Abilities:

Seal Form:
As a Selkie he has a seal form and a human form. He turns into a human by removing his seal skin, and turns into a seal by putting it back on. He keeps his seal skin close in whatever place he is currently staying, but he doesn't carry it around with him.

Potential for water magic, specially Hydromancy (water divination):
He has an affinity towards water magic but has learned only the very basics of Hydromancy from his mother who is a low level Hydromancer.

- MacKay (as his teammates from swim-team called him)
- Tide (as his surfing friends called him)

Background Information and story:

Native to Scotland (and spread over all of northern Europe) Selkies are sea lions that can shed their skin and take human form. They are more prominent on the shores of Orkney and Shetland. When a female selkie sheds her skin and is captured, she is forced to become the capturer's wife. If she were to ever find her skin again, she would return to sea, leaving her husband to pine and die.

Tyler's mother Deoiridh, is a Selkie from Orkney Island and was captured by a wealthy Scottish widower named Clyde MacKay while she was pregnant with Tyler. The man was okay with his selkie bride having a selkie baby because he wanted to be a father but he had become a widower before he could have any children with his previous wife. Deoiridh knew Clyde's wealth could give her and her baby a great life so she wasn't bitter about her fate, still she regretted that her son would not know the life of the Selkies first hand, she would only get to teach him what his heritage comprises.

So Tyler was born and registered as Clyde's son. He lived a very sheltered life in the city of Inverness Scotland. But traveled a lot with his father who had apartments in Glasgow, London and, due to Tyler's increasing interest in surfing, a summer house in Gold Coast, Australia. Because of this traveling Tyler knows how to tone down his Scottish accent and "language" if needed. But Scotland remained his primary home.
Tyler had been attending high school in Inverness where he was shaping up to be a quintessential dumb jock. He was often cut major slack in classes because he was valuable to the school's swimteam.

In spite of the slack, his grades had reached a critical low, so his parents decided to send him to Drake Academy instead of going back to highschool. It was the strong desire of his mother that Tyler got in touch with his Selkie side by studying water magic. A thing she wasn't very interested in, but would give Tyler a chance to experience the magical life of their kind. She taught him basic Hydromancy herself, something she had a natural ability for. Tyler uses it mostly to read the waters at the beach and hopefully know when and if there will be good waves for surfing.

Personality and other characteristics:

Tyler is a laid back guy who rests on the fact that his life is taken care of because of his father's wealth even if he doesn't amount to anything on his own. So he tends to focus on having fun and doing sports, specially swimming and surfing.

He does poorly in school, he specially hates math.

Even though he is laid back in terms of worrying about life, he is very short tempered when non-friends argue with him, to the point of not being afraid to get into fights if necessary. That usually intimidates people before he gets the chance to fight. His actual fighting skills are not good. But if people call his bluff and he has to fight he gives it his all, even if it's to back up a friend. Which leads to the next point.

He is a believer in clan-like friendships, groups of friends that have each others backs. His swimteam and the friends he usually surfed with were the two most prominent examples. If somebody hurt a member of any of those groups they would all gang up on that somebody.

Being raised as a human primarily, and having an extremely comfortable lifestyle, he isn't well versed or interested on the Selkie lifestyle (which is why his mother insisted that he attended DA) but he does enjoy his Seal form. He likes swimming and surfing as a human best, but he treats himself to the occasional escapade as a sea lion, being gone for entire weekends when he hasn't made plans.

He is not one to show off his wealth but does at times get unintentionally condescending in that regard.

Being a resident of the Scottish Highlands he has a thick highlander accent, but he is able to tone it down for people who have trouble following when he speaks.

He is left handed.

He is mildly Claustrophobic, fearing suffocation in all the typical types of places except water, he attributes that exception to his Selkie nature. Thus he also widely prefers the outdoors over indoors.
