The leader of the Elite Four, the strongest warrior of Dusk Zone ever, the heart of the Dark King after he was defeated by Cure Black and Cure White in the original Futari wa finale; Valdez is those things. Even though the boy in the mansion is the life, Valdez is the more coherent presence of the King. His will, you can say. And along with it, the Dark King's every form of 'evil'.
... Or so I thought.
The thing with Valdez and the Dark King takes a slight derailing with the rest of the Elite Four making their sacrifice to hinder the Cures and destroy their bracelet. When they stay behind to do so, Valdez stops for a moment to stare at their backs. If he's really the King's will, who in the first season killed his right hand man just for the possibility of destroying the Prism Stones, then why he seems to have a respect for his warriors? It seems that not only Hikari and Hikaru become independent personalities from their previous personality.

Too bad, Valdez might be the most wooden antagonist in Max Heart. So much potential in this sort of plot.
