Yeah, Luna is kind of overrated. I never understood why so many people like Luna over Celestia. (Personally, I've never been of a fan of her. She's just an okay character.)

That aside, it often then not makes me feel bad for Celestia. (At least she's been given more love as time goes on.) I mean, she did everything she could alone for 1000 years, and has more screen time and plot relevance then Luna could ever dream of.

And now Celestia is crying. At least she has Twilight for comfort.

Most of it came form the very early days of the show. and she was an blank slate so writers often just made her into a woobie waifu type that fans eat up.

So since Luna was good and perfect people started blaming Celestia for Luna's problems and sending Luna to the moon. the large gap allowed people to come up with the ideal Celestia sent Luna to the moon in order to get total power ect.

It ended up having a massive fallout with people getting sick of Tyrant!Celestia stories, namely the shitstrom over Past Sins marks the end of it.

By Lunar Eclipse woobie waifu Luna died off. And slowly after that people just got tried how much Luna stuff there is minus a few.

So now Luna is popular soloy because most of the old pony stuff says Luna is the best so they just ape it.

And hey Celestia has the IDW comics and Luna sucks because her story was really any old fanfics of Nightmare Moon's return.
