Thanks. Yeah, I like this one. I'm working on another piece now that's just fighting me the whole way. Very frustrating. This one just created itself in comparison.

Wonderfully done. Nice use of color. Very nice and simple composition. Effective. Some things to consider should you do a similar concept might be to add some more shadows to darken the skin that faces away from the sun for added contrast. Add more of the small butterflies for again contrast (between the main figure) and a sense of movement. I would even deepen the shadows cast from the trees on the ground and think of adding some sunlight rays from above.

DaraGallery In reply to Rickbw1 [2007-01-14 02:52:27 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. And thanks for the input. It's spot on. Can't believe I left out rippled shadows in the water for the trees. I'll have to fix that. ...and more contrast in the face wouldn't hurt either. (As to why only one small butterfly - laziness )

the pose really captures my attention so I can understand why it inspired you. The focus on the the foreground is impressive. I love the colours. Nice job

Thanks for the wonderful comments. I was going for serenity. Lilypads seem to project that. Probably bec they only do well in calmer waters.

I think I like this one the best of the two. Which is a bit surprising since green is my least favorite color. Perhaps, for me, the blue one is too blue, too cool, while this seems more varied colorwise and a bit warmer. Both are great images, and the hands and feet are so very well done.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DaraGallery In reply to pepperw [2007-01-04 15:40:23 +0000 UTC]

It seems to be the favorite. I'm pretty happy with this one ...like the blue too, though. I pushed myself a bit on this. Usually I do a basic trace of the face and sometimes the extremities in photoshop - so the anatomy isn't wonky - before spending 15++ hours painting. But I wanted the figure elongated a bit so I drew the whole thing from scratch. Ah well, if you don't evolve you stagnant, right?

As much as I absolutely LOVE blue... this one is better. The bluer one can be seen as maybe a night version, but something about it seems too awake to work like that.

I prefer this one for some reason, can't figure out why though. Amazing piece of work though, definate My one suggestion, if I may, is that maybe you could make the wings a little transluscent; maybe so you could see the tree trunks a bit through them.
