Description
A shot from the dawn of our second day in the Chilean Torres del Paine national park. It was a beautiful winter morning, with my friend and me being virtually the only people in the park (we haven't met anyone all day long ever since leaving our refugio).
As the day progressed, we got a bit lost (well, we had a map and knew where we are, but the routes were covered in snow and the terrain was next to impassable at times) so what happened next included walking through steppes, sands, thorns, woods, marshes, snow-covered stones and ultimately knee-deep snow, all with 20-kg backpacks on our backs.
And then in the afternoon it started to rain, and we were already half-accepting that we might just have to spend the night on the mountainside, without tents of course.
Luckily, we rerouted and the day ended well, even though walking around for hours with your feet wet, in the winter, is not the nicest of experiences...
Still, for scenes like this, it was definitely worth it

Very beautiful picture! Did you use any filters?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DanielZrno In reply to Hadriian [2011-08-17 13:33:33 +0000 UTC]

Nope, although I did make two exposures to make up for the lack of ND-grad filter at the time, and blended them later in PS.

HAHA. Well that's a first. Not a bad association but i'm just suprised... Simo is very common name in Finland...

fotographikus [2011-07-25 07:47:57 +0000 UTC]

very very great! Is it a HDR?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DanielZrno In reply to fotographikus [2011-07-25 08:00:17 +0000 UTC]

Hey thanks

Nope, although I actually did a HDR version first, you can see it here:
[link]

This one is just 2 exposures (land and sky) blended, as would be by using an ND-grad filter. I find it much better than HDR (with its halos and weird spots of light).

fotographikus In reply to DanielZrno [2011-07-25 08:06:56 +0000 UTC]

wow, how do you made this? You make 2 exposures and then you put it to one photo in photoshop?

you have right, the hdr isn't so good as the "normal" visions!
I have also this problem with my hdrs, so i hope i can make photos such yours!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DanielZrno In reply to fotographikus [2011-07-25 08:11:02 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, just open both exposures as two separate layers and overlap them using a layer mask which you paint over with a gradient filter.
Here's a good detailed tutorial on how to do it (from our fellow deviant ~hougaard ):

Good luck!

hi! thank you very much for your tips and link! I have made such a photo: [link]

Many thanks!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DanielZrno In reply to fotographikus [2011-08-28 17:43:26 +0000 UTC]

Definitely better!
I'd add maybe a touch more light in both the foreground and the background cause it's a bit dark overall, but that's nothing more than a personal preference...

Good luck with future shots
