This costume is very rich, and colours are well matched. There's a great care for details.
The bodice lacks some structure (shoulders getting down, folds on the bust part: a corset should be used, and a specific one for the Tudor style, or fabric should be reinforced not to form wrinkles, for wxampe with a double layer of an adhesive fabric, if you don't wish to invest in some expensive corset).
Some ironing before wearing would allow to show the costume at its best.
With the corset, it will surely be perfect.
The model looks gorgeous, and the ensemble looks just like a painting.

Hello there!

First of all, thanks for your helpful critique!

I was wearing a steel boned corset under the dress, I chose to wear it underneath since I'm a beginner and I still haven't sewn bones in my costumes The next time I'll use an heavier fabric, this one was just an experiment to improve my skills and I didn't have enough money for velvet (sadly).
I noticed shoulders as well, I used a size 10 but I think it's too large for my bust (I had to shorten them a lot before stitching the sleeves) so I'll go for size 8 next time
I did ironing the evening before the shooting but since I had to bring other dresses that day in my suitcase, the fabric was wrinkled again It's my fault.
Anyway, thanks for your loving suggestions, they're really appreciated!

(PS: I'm the model as well, I'm always happy to look good in my own dresses! ^^)

You should make the bodice a litthe tighter then, and it will look gorgeous, but I can notice a shadow where your breast is: a modern corset wouldn't work, you need a very flat corset, suiting the Tudor fasion!

Yeah, I saw a beautiful stay on Etsy from a costumer I love and I was planning to buy one for a perfect look (same thing for other historical costumes I was planning to make).
I definitively have to learn how to sew stays and bones!

I just wanted to note, that if you make any practice stays/corsets and don't want to spend the money on steel just yet, get some of the larger zip ties from stores like Lowes. I get ones that are about 15-18 inches long, and 3/8 of an inch wide. They are very sturdy, a little bendy, but a lot cheaper, which is great for practice.

I love it!! You look like a painting come to life, and this is keeping in mind that many portraits were made to be especially flattering.

Beautifully done, especially for a first go! The only thing I can say is that if you weren't intending to wear a period corset, you should have used heavy interfacing and possibly some boning to stiffen the bodice and shoulders to support the weight of the skirt and sleeves. But hey, there's always next time.
Gorgeous gown though, you picked a very flattering look and the colors are perfect together. If you need a pattern for the proper undergarments, Simplicity 2621 will do just the trick!!

Thank you!! To be honest I've to admit there are many details in this dress I've to change in the future. I started sewing last year and I wanted to try something more advanced instead of the classic medieval-fantasy dress I usually do. I have lot of things to learn ^_^
The choice of interfacing could be perfect and I will do it for sure in the next Tudor gown (which will be in velvet or brocade).

Thanks for your tips!!

You're welcome! I'm glad I could lend some help!

It surprised me that you've only been sewing for about a year! Your work looks like you've got tons more experience! I really look forward to seeing more from you; you've got amazing potential ^_^

Thanks a lot!
My grandfather was a professional tailor but I was too young to learn something from him. I learned all that I know from online tutorials, my boyfriend and his mother. I need lot of training and I can't wait to learn new techniques

It might not turn out so badly if you're Anne of Cleves, maybe. If not, don't risk it.
