I know nothing about the comics, but I'll say those things (well aware that knowledge of the comics might contradict this, but I just don't know):
Zazie Beetz and her character were awesome in Deadpool 2!
The Domino in the comics and pictured above is white, as in paper white, with black patches, as in jet black. These colours do not imply to me any skin colour associated with a so called "race". Seeing the picture above, I could not tell if the person is white, black, brown etc. Depicting this Domino as above in a movie does not require an actress of a certain race, but body paint. Without knowing anything else about the character, the character as pictured above could just as well be from anywhere.
If Neena Thurman's "race" is irrelevant for the story, _why not_ cast her as black to increase diversity in the movie. This has a tremendous beneficial effect on the black communitiy.

It could have easily been a black actress... Who then was given body paint and a costume and hairstyle to better match the classic looks of Domino from the comics.
Even if it was just a face tattoo or face paint and they left the rest of her body alone, that'd still be better.
However, Neena Thurman IS of Caucasian European descent. The only times she is depicted in the comic without the skin disorder (or paint, it differs depending on the comic multiverse), she is depicted with "white person" skin.
Comics fans in particular are sticklers for accuracy. If they wanted to cast an African American actress, they should have done body paint.
I loved the movie, and Zazie Beetz did an amazing job such that I was able to not think about the casting decision while watching the movie.
But that doesn't change that we can be almost certain that a big reason for her casting was the color of her skin. What I have heard, again and again and again, is that while having someone of the same race as you playing a hero is good, having the original character be changed to artificially give your race representation is... Rather insulting.

I know she is white, but I pointed out, that if her "race" has no essential ramifications for the story, there is no real need to cling to the original. There are a lot of changes when a story gets into another medium, so why focus on a detail that has no effect on the story? "Comics fans in particular are sticklers for accuracy. " I find this particularly amusing seeing how comics are anything but a neverending story of reinvention and rewriting. This is one of the reason I usually don't dwell in this genre, because it is ridiculously inpersistent and asks for a constant and copious amount of suspension of disbelief.

Pick a Marvel character. Any one of them. The chances are incredibly small that their race plays little part in their part of the story. (obvious exceptions include Black Panther).
Now, let's make Wolverine Japanese, Jubilee Scottish, Tony Stark an African Pygmy, Doctor Strange Indian, and Warmachine a mid-west hillbilly.
Yes. It matters. Staying as close to the source material is better.
The comics get rewritten and reinvented, yes, but some things remain consistent. One of the least changed things is a character's race. Because in comics, how a character looks is important for identifying them.
For Domino, it matters within her backstory. Because she was a test-tube baby that was born via surrogate. Who her parents were is important to her own story.
It's focused on because it wasn't an accident. It was an intentional choice. The film industry focused on it because they wanted to make a political statement, so yes, people are right to respond to it.
If they wanted to make a NEW character, or declare to people that this is specifically NOT the same character, that would have been much better.
Don't take something and change it if you can just as easily make something new. Especially if changing the other thing would have irritated others and taken something away from them.
I know I personally don't care about a character's labels, because it's how the character acts and what they do that matters to me. So I'm able to relate to a character regardless of their labels.
To me, it's a bit insulting that the media seems bent on changing characters and adding minority groups to things to "give them representation" and "give them someone to look up to". I thought the point was that those labels shouldn't matter. But once a character has a label, they should stay that way. It becomes part of the character, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant.

I concur. The look they chose for the movie only satisfied SJW's and was a lazy costume design. It barely resembles the character at all, save for a small splotch of "white paint". What a lovely way to race-swap a character yet again, Marvel.

The movie IS written, directed and flows better than the previous film. Again, there's nothing "wrong" with the actress in how she acted for the role given to her. But I just don't like how everything surrounding her is just celebrating the fact she's black, not the fact she played a good role as DOMINO; you know, the CHARACTER. Oi vey~

hmm, nah. Zazie Beets rocked as Domino, but i guess it would have looked just as cool with someone like Natalie Dormer, or Maisie Williams.

If it had been a black character race swapped to a white one people would've lost their shit and gone on and on about racism.
Double standards piss me off.
