Description This was my second-to-last art project in my Drawing I class. I finally got it back today (the college photogrpahed it to make slides of), and decided it was about time to submit it. ...it's not very well photographed, I don't have a studio, flood lights, a good camera or a white wall without texture on it, but I still wanted to show it. Not as good as my Toby drawing, but I like it still. I'll update it with a better version soon as I'm able to get a better photograph of it.

The goal was to show deapth and perspective by using object placement and contrast of light and dark between the fore, middle and background. This photo really doesn't do it justice. :/ Ah well, I'll get a better capture soon.

Charcoal on Reeve's Lightweight 19x24" paper.

All your charcoal drawings are especially well done. Very smooth and textures on the objects are softened a bit to mix in with the rest of the composition.
This doesn't strike me as an unsual view of still life. It's nice to be just traditional and you accomplished the feat and pleased the eyes. The flower caught my attention with shading along the veins.
I also liked that you picked a section of the setup that pretty much split the paper in half in a diagonal shape. Great focal point. yay! *cheesey thumbs up*

now, dont get me wrong, im aware youve got hundreds of comments to sift through, reply to, dump, stuff like that, if you dont have the time, dont reply to this.

anyway, this piece is the very thing that i have to do at the end of this year, still life, chalks and charcoal, im not getting nearly enough practice in them, and less guidence in techniques to practice using. i do still have plenty of time, but again, if youve go the time, advice would be much appreciated.

congrats on the award

I can tell that this photograph doesn't do this picture justice. It looks like there's so much more detail than we're getting to see here. Charcoal looks like a fun medium to work with. It does work when you're going for strong contrast and such. Hmm...now I must try some.

I really like the contrast in the sunflower and the smoothness of the pot (I think??) behind it. The texture is what really jumps out at me in this piece, but I can see your lighting effects too. Of course your Toby picture is going to be better because you did it after this, but this is very good still! (I mean, the college wanted to photograph it and all) Is the paper really 19x24 or is that a typo? 19 is an odd size...

Thank you for sharing this.

Looks like you worked hard on this. It shows in the detail.

PS. I am the VERY proud owner of an original Purcell.
Looks even better in person.

This is really nice, I am sure that you receieved plenty of positive feedback from your class.

I love the amount of contrast in this, everything is very well defined, which says a lot considering the fact it's probably lost a lot of detail in the process of posting it on the web. (I hate that about traditional media on here).

The shadows are amazing, I love the solid black, and the smooth shading as well. There is a lot of different textures, and you really displayed them wonderfully as well. Especiallly on objects such as the basket and flowers. Very interesting content as well

I love the composition, having it off to the side, I love how my eye fills is the blanks. The white on the other side is very strong, but really balances the piece out and gives me a break from the intense detail on the opposite side. Plus the wavy lines that are dominant gives the piece as sense of motion in the drawing as well.

No wonder they took this for their portfolio for future classes

Now this is pretty good ^^ I like how you managed to shade everything here, and the detail upon the flowers and baskets have managed to shine well as a very strong piece of classwork from you. Very well done Kay!
