Original description:
Nobody "has to" do shit with their body hair. Except wash it.
And so long as the person is hygienic, there's nothing wrong with having body hair. If there was, we wouldn't have it, would we?

This is mostly about chicks, because, apparently, according to society, we are "teh ugly gross dykes!!!" if we aren't bald everywhere but our head. kthx society, glad to know I'm an abomination just for being mammalian. :I

But, it's not just for chicks. I hear lots of stories about supposedly loving girlfriends who make their boyfriends shave their chests or beards (or even heads).

Excuse me, but, someone's body hair is their business, and their business alone. It's one thing to find something not aesthetically pleasing to yourself, but don't go demanding someone shave or saying they are scummy if they don't. That's just fucking rude and ignorant. You know, how about you just, jee, I dunno, mind your own business and not date them? Though I think you're conceited if you dump someone just for having, oh no, HAIR!

I don't HAVE to shave, and neither do you. Nobody HAS to shave.*
So leave people alone.
*That is of course unless there's some medical reason for it, obviously.

Yes, I do shave, just so you know. You're free to shave too. The point is that you don't HAVE to if you don't want to.

Tried something different, with the brush highlight.

I hate my schools ridiculous rules about how guys "have to" be clean shaven. It's like, fuck off, my facial hair my rules. Im growing a goatee and Im damn proud of it, even if Im only 16 and it's gonna take a few years to be impressive. If the school tries to hassle me about it I'll use what I've learned here and I'll accuse them of religious intolerance (Im a Heathen, growing a beard of some sort is a way of honouring my Heathen ancestors).

In 5th grade, some girl screamed at me to shave my armpits.
Now I'm scared to wear short sleeved shirts...
Anyway, I agree with this stamp. Body hair isn't that disgusting, but I don't find it extremely attractive, either.

I really hate when my skin is smooth. I prefer it the first few days after I've shaved, when the hair is growing back.

Ah. I almost never shave my legs because I don't wear a lot of short things or go outside in the summer when I'd have to, so the strangeness is probably what gets me.

Say it with me everybody! "Personal choice!" See how easy that was? Again! "Personal choice!" Now, what does that mean, boys and girls? It means as long as you keep yourself clean, you can do whatever the fuck you want with your body hair. You wanna shave every individual strand off yourself? Have at thee! You wanna look like Big Foot? Go for it! You wanna shave some, but not all? Do it!

Some people are the reverse- "OMG don't shave/wax/pluck down there; you'll get yeast infections and look underage and nobody likes that!!" or "You shave?! You must be influenced by the disgusting media!"

I personally dislike most body hair, but if someone else wants to keep theirs, that's fine by me!

Nice stamp! I agree.

Though about the girlfriends making their boyfriends shave... I don't make my SO shave his facial hair, but I won't kiss him/let him kiss me/etc. if he has stubble, because it irritates my skin too much. Just wanted to put that out there.

Sure, we're all mammals. It'd be nice if mother nature had either decided on a full, luscious cost of hair or bald skin instead of the sparse, kind of mangy look we're stuck with now. I'd prefer it if everybody shaved, but that's my taste. I don't find intermittent body hair attractive; it looks like being covered in pubes. But I admire the people who are comfortable enough with themselves and their partners not to.
Really there's no practical reason to completely shave the pubic area since hair prevents chafing, but like any other area that can be shaved, there are practical reasons for keeping it trimmed. Letting it stick out of your underwear or bikini leaves it liable to get yanked or caught in things like zippers or pantyliners or even in the weave of your underwear. If you don't shave your legs, close-fitting pants can irritate your legs by pulling your hair against the grain. Chest and back hair on guys can do the same. Facial hair traps food and irritates the faces of significant others without a layer of their own. And there is a hygienic reason to shave armpit hair. It traps sweat and lets it sit, and the bodily waste in it "ferments". A few hundred millenniums ago, we were adapted to perceive that smell as a pheromone. But we evolved away from that and since we compound the problem by wearing clothes on top of it, it stinks, chafes, and even facilitates bacterial or fungal dermatitis. Until we evolve into our standard of clothing, it needs to go, on everyone regardless of sex.

Dametora In reply to AsterHyakinthou [2011-03-21 20:27:44 +0000 UTC]

I hear the look we have now is because we were so parasite-ridden and filthy that our hair just naturally evolved this way in response. I'm not sure if I believe it.

As for the rest of your post,
Muff -- I went for years without shaving and never had it get caught in anything.
Legs -- I wear jeans all the time and do not have irritation. In fact, I only get irritation when I shave (yes, even with cream).
Chest/Back -- My dad doesn't shave, and the worst he gets is maybe a bit hotter during the summer. No rashes.
Armpit -- that's why we wash. People let their armpit hair grow all the time and, with proper washing and deodorizing they are fine. Also, you're wrong -- there is an actual gland there that is not the sweat gland that produces a pheromone. The same type of gland is found on your chest (at least I know it is in women) and your naval area (and maybe I think hands?). I rarely shave my armpits and I don't have any of the problems you're talking about.

In fact, I know people who never shave or wax at all who don't have any of those problems. The only problem they get? Well, for the girls, they get people going so far as to spit on them for being "gross ugly filthy!"

AsterHyakinthou In reply to Dametora [2011-03-21 21:04:54 +0000 UTC]

Perhaps you're right, but it's individual. Some people have those problems. You don't and you don't know anybody who does, so that's great for you. I know people who have those problems. Muff: I have those problems when I don't shave, so I shave. Same for my legs.

Look, I wouldn't make anybody shave anything they didn't want to. I'm not going to comment on anybody else's body hair...except armpit hair. Sorry, but that's one thing I'm not gonna budge on. I really wish it was a universal standard to shave armpit hair. I've been rather traumatized by the sight (and smell) of a woman who not only didn't shave her pit hair, but took it upon herself to braid it into cornrows and tie it with neon rubber bands.

HeStoppedTheRain In reply to AsterHyakinthou [2011-08-13 04:42:23 +0000 UTC]

I don't shave my arm pits anymore, and I honestly don't think that they smell any more than what they used to when I did shave them. If they do, it doesn't matter, because I just use Deodorant, and that gets rid of the B.O. entirely. Shaving doesn't magically make the B.O. go away... you get it whether you have hair or are bare. So quit crying about it, you pussy.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AsterHyakinthou In reply to HeStoppedTheRain [2011-08-15 06:28:58 +0000 UTC]

OK, I could've respected your opinion all the way up to the last sentence. It is my opinion that armpit hair is disgusting and it would be nice if more people, especially guys, shaved it. But I've accepted that such won't happen and have not even told my boyfriend of my disgust for armpit hair because I love him as he is and realize my aversion is abnormal. I never said pit hair causes BO (only that it it makes it worse, thank you), I'm not forcing it on you, I'm not crying about it, and I'm not pussy. By the way, we both have one and am rather offended at its implication that having a vagina is synonymous with cowardice.
Also, I was about to say I went to high school with you, but I realized that couldn't be the case since as I recall the girl you resemble was much more diplomatic.

I have difficulty shaving because my skin is very sensitive(And not just down south, but everywhere), so I always get razor bumps, soreness, etc., and those gels and stuff don't work on thick hair, apparently, so most of the time, I don't shave unless I absolutely have to, thanks to having European blood, where parts of Europe actually have the most body hair of any geological demographic out there.

The worst part is that my brother, family, and everyone bothers me about shaving, some even saying they won't associate with me if I don't. That's what really irks me, the fact that people equate body hair to dirtiness or uncleanliness.

Oh, and the fact that having no hair down there makes you look like a little kid, and that's what worries me is that society wants their pubes and thus, sexual encounters, to happen with a childlike look to it. All that lolita nonsense, I suppose. >,>

I, sir or madam, tip my hat to you, and since I've loved a ton of your work, you receive +1 watch from me.

You are my favorite person of the day for this. And for noting that it's only smooth for a few hours before we become porcupines. I haven't shaved for a year, and I love not having to deal with it. I no longer worry if I've missed a spot, because I know it's all there!

I agree with you about the lack of pubes = childlike and thus creepy.

That sucks that they treat you like that, knowing your skin is a tad too sensitive for shaving. I'm sorry to hear that.

And thanks for the watch

No problem. ^,^ Yeah, even though I like the smoothness of shaved skin, it might be like that for...a few hours to a day before it's bumpy and sore, and my hair grows back wicked fast, so I'm like, "Why bother?"

It's alright, I usually just say, "You can shave if you'd like, but I'm not going to." They get all pissy about it, but I'm chill.

Oh, and I just noticed your icon is butt-scooting to the beat of my music. XDDD
