Arc 1: Journey
Episode 3

Almaas flies over the Alayssian Archipelago, which has recovered since the Great Cataclysm. She spreads a sparkling powder as she flies over the islands, some of it is absorbed by the residents living there. After her survey, she flies back to Dinosauria, making for the Dragon Palace, where she is greeted by Toruk, Eywa, and Soulgem.

Almaas: It is done, my King. The people and animals of the Alayssian islands have been given the Gift. It will take time to take full effect, but they will evolve from it, and maybe become better than they are now.
Toruk: And how long will it take?
Almaas: My best guess is a few thousand years. The Alayssian prehistorics are more primitive than their Dinosaurian counterparts.
Soulgem: I guess it will take a while, since the dragons did this to the ancestors of the Dinosaurians.
Almaas: Mother mentioned there was a time barrier over Dinosauria, preventing the species living there from going extinct, but I'm worried... it's showing signs of weakening.
Eywa: Weakening? That's not possible. What makes you assume this?
Almaas: Seems our little "friends" are tampering with the barrier. Prehistorics don't trust them, and they can sense something is wrong.
Toruk: Keep investigating, Almaas. If these Dokklafar are indeed a danger, then they may be covering their tracks far too well, even for us.

  Back on Dinosauria, Xion wakes up to a sound. She peaks out the door to see her father walking out in his battle armor.

Xion: Where are you going, Dad?
Ikelon: Xion, I got called in for a late job. I may be gone all day. Can you look after Riku?
Xion: I'll try.
Ikelon: Look, I know things have been rough these past few years, but we'll get through this.
Xion: I'll try to keep Riku out of trouble.
Ikelon: Good girl.  And remember, trust in the Great Spirit.

  He kisses her forehead and leaves, and she goes back to bed. However, she continues to worry, and it prevents her from sleeping.  Later in the morning, Ezra comes by to visit with Wild Star.

Ezra: Xion, are you home?
Xion: So Lion Master, what brings you here?
Ezra: I just came to say hey.
Xion: That all?
Ezra: Well, perhaps we could hang out.
Xion: That so?

  Ashura goes in the household.  Riku sees him and freaks out.

Riku: OH MY GOD! HOW DID THAT LION GET IN HERE?!?
Ezra: I'm so sorry, Ashura is mine, and I'll lead him out.

  He tries to lead him out, but something has Ashura's attention as he pulls out of Ezra's hand. He goes into Xion's room and spots Anoka cleaning herself, she sharply turns around seeing the big cat.  Ashura pounces, but Anoka gets out of the way in time and hides in Xion's sheets.  Ashura tries to fish her out, only to get bitten on the paw, and she rushes out and going into her hiding spots, specially made for minks.  Ezra and Xion grab Ashura and manage to get him out of the house.

Riku: Man, you're lucky Dad isn't home, or you would have been toast.
Xion: Riku, just be lucky me and Ezra stopped Ashura before can wreck my room more.
Riku: Or worse, eat your ferret.

  Anoka bites at Riku's feet.  She leaps into Xion's arms and sneers at him.

Xion: She's not a ferret. She's a mink.
Riku: Whatever.
Ezra: Where is your dad anyway?
Xion: Went off on a job, said he'd be out all day.
Erza: I see, ok if I-

  Anoka bites at him when he tries to pet her.

Xion: I wouldn't do that, mink aren't like ferrets, a little more feistier, and their teeth are needle sharp.
Ezra: Ow... I see that. As I was saying, I was wondering if it is ok to stay here for a while. I'd like to meet your dad.
Xion: Ok. Just keep that cat under control.
Ezra: Of course. Ashura has handled wild boar that are a trouble for farmers, at least he gets a free meal out of it, same with deer and antelope.

  Ashura just patiently waits outside, although Anoka teases him. Meanwhile, Ezra gets to know the siblings more.  Night soon falls, and Ikelon has not returned. This starts to worry the kids.

Xion: I thought Dad would be home by now.
Ezra: Where do you think he went?
Xion: Wherever Neo Guardians go...
Ezra: Say Riku, you got Neo powers like Xion?
Riku: Not that I know of, no.
Ezra: I always wondered how you guys do that anyway, do you just flail your hands around like this?

  As he moves his arms around, his hand suddenly glows like a lantern, illuminating the room. This surprises all three of them.

Ezra: Did that come out of me?
Xion: Yeah. Are you a lightbender?
Ezra: I sometimes see Mom use this kind of power, but not a lot. And I didn't think I would have powers.

  The light gets the attention of Elion, who happens to be nearby.

Ellion: This is something unusual. I need to tell Verum.

  The next day, and Ikelon has not returned. So Ezra and Xion set out to find him. Wild Star has agreed to keep Riku and Ashura safe. They go to the White Tiger Gateway.

Xion: Any idea where Dad went?
Ezra: I left Eastern Dinosauria due to Organization 24. Maybe he went there.
Xion: Makes me wonder if the monster that took the temple might be roaming there. There were Shadow Beasts appearing.
Ezra: Only one way to find out.

  They go through the portal together, and they end up on the Eastern island. It seems peaceful at the moment.

Xion: You couldn't have gotten to Waterfall City through this earlier?
Ezra: They put up regulations after Alayssian refugees fled here.
Xion: Stupid rule I'd add, but at least I wasn't brainwashed into some stupid religion.
Ezra: Hey, I read the Bible as a kid, still hold it to my heart.
Xion: I was speaking about the Dokklafar religion, prehistorics don't trust it, so me and the folks at home don't trust it either.
Ezra: Then what religion do you follow?
Xion: My family's faith is in the Alayssian gods, including the Great Spirit.  Prehistorics keep to the faith of the dragons since they saved them from extinction.

  Some Shadow Wolfs spot them, but stay out of sight for the time being.  Ezra and Xion soon come across the temple, yet things appear calm on the outside.

Ezra: It looks completely abandoned.
Xion: Wait. Not completely.

  She sees an Organization 24 vehicle.  They keep out of sight.  Ezra and Xion sneak inside, and find the hall has been filled with a huge machine. As they try to get a closer look, a nearby explosion sounds off. The two turn around to see Ikelon battling what looks like a demonic deer monster. Xion gasps to this.

Ezra: Is that your dad?
Xion: Yeah, but what's he fighting? Is that the beast?
Ikelon: Belial, listen to me. I cannot let you open a portal to another dimension! Eastern Dinosauria is not zoned for that!
Belial: It's not up to me. Why won't you quit?
Ikelon: I don't know. I guess I like the main islands not being sucked into a black hole! Raptor Claw Island, maybe. Not one of the main five though!
Belial: Maybe.... maybe.... but you should look behind you.

  The Shadow Wolves from before join the fight, but Ikelon holds them off using his staff. One of the wolves notices the kids, however.

Xion: You think leaving the lion behind was a bad idea right?
Ezra: I didn't know. How could I have known?

  The wolf starts attacking them. As he fights Belial, Ikelon notices Xion and Ezra in danger.  He strikes Belial down, then goes to Ezra and Xion.  The wolf turns its attention to Ikelon, who charges power through his staff.  Then the wolf is sent flying from a powerful blast.

Ikelon: What are you two doing here?!
Xion: I'm so sorry, Dad. I was so scared for you, I couldn't wait anymore.
Ikelon: We'll worry about that later, Xion. Is Riku here?
Ezra: He's home. I'm Ezra. I know this isn't the time, but it's an honor to meet you.
Ikelon: There's a time and place for everything, but this is not the time nor the place.
Belial: Better not bring this Beast Master in on this, yet makes me wonder how his valor will taste? Or better yet, kept prisoner.

  They continue to fight. Ezra and Xion retreat to a safer distance. Ikelon grabs the demon by his hellish antlers and holds his ground, burning them with his hands. As the two young intruders stand by, they notice a figure in the distance, wearing shiny silver armor with purple paint on it. Ezra squints his eyes and recognizes.

Ezra: The silver armor of the Archangel?

  Ikelon gets out of the way as the Archangel strikes.  The Archangel fires bolts of purple energy from his clawed hands.  Ikelon does his best to hold them both off.

Ikelon: Xion, take Ezra and get out of here!

  They prepare to retreat, but something catches Xion's eyes: an observation chamber. Inside, she sees the eight Dokklafar with Organization 24 workers. Then, and old man appears in the chamber. He is bald, except for a blackish beard, has hazel green eyes, and a black uniform. He turns on the speakers.

Dr. Claudandus: You like my new toy? Cost me a fortune, but hey, can't take it with you, right? You came all this way. Watch the test. It's a hell of a frickin' light show, you're gonna love this.

  The giant machine in the chamber suddenly activates, and a beam begins to form. Ikelon breaks from the two warriors and rushes to the device controls, with Belial in hot pursuit.  Ikelon makes it to the machine.  He starts to wreck it, causing it to malfunction and ready to explode.

Belial: NO!!!
Ikelon: This had to be done!

  They fight as the machine falls apart, and they get a glimpse into the other side just before it explodes violently, destroying the entire chamber. After a moment of silence, Ezra and Xion peak out to see the damage. They search recklessly for Ikelon. They find Belial's corpse, partially incinerated by the interdimensional energy released. As they keep looking, they hear coughing and find Ikelon, badly wounded and his armor wrecked.

Xion: Dad!
Ezra: Are you alright, can you get up?
Ikelon: I'm Alayssian, I always get back up.
Khorzarn: *in the distance* Find him. Now.
Ikelon: You two. You saw this happen. You're the country's best hope right now.
Ezra: But, I don't think I can help. I'm just a beast master.
Ikelon: I don't think you have a choice, kiddo. Both of you listen to me very carefully, and send this message to Verum and King Leonardo for me. Organization 24 is working with the Dokklafar.
Xion: That-that's impossible.
Ikelon: I thought so too.  You need to get out of here, Xion.  Let everyone know the truth before it's too late. Promise me you'll both do this for me.
Ezra: I-I promise.
Khorzarn: He's here somewhere!

  Ezra and Xion get out there before they get caught.  They retreat to an open vent above, where they see the Dokklafar, the Archangel, and Organization 24 men, including Dr. Claudandus, appearing before the wounded Ikelon. Tunvuss and Nanzod hold the wounded Alayssian up by his arms.

Dr. Claudandus: I'd say it's nice to see you again, Ikelon. But it's not.
Ikelon: Hey, Doc. How's business?
Dr. Claudandus: Booming. Ha!
Ikelon: Nice...

  Claudandus rips off Ikelon’s mask, revealing gray hair and light blue eyes.

Ikelon: Aww, that's a no-no. This might open a black hole under the islands. It can't be worth the risk.
Dr. Claudandus: It's not always about the money, Ikelon.

  The Archangel advances on Ikelon, ready to deliver a killing blow.

Ikelon: *frantic* Don't you want to know what I saw in there?
Dr. Claudandus: *holds up a hand* Wait.
Ikelon: I know what you're trying to do, Jonah... and it won't work. They're gone.

  Claudandus stares, eyes narrowed, then furiously shoots Ikelon, killing him. The Dokklafar drop his limp body, allowing it to fall to the ground. Ezra and Xion watch helplessly above.

Dr. Claudandus: Get rid of the body.
Ezra: Time to get out of here.

  They turn around, but their movement causes rubble to fall on Dr. Claudandus' head. He and the others look up to see Ezra and Xion, and he glares.

Dr. Claudandus: Kill them.

  The Archangel spreads energy wings and takes flight.  They get away from the area, but the Archangel is in hot pursuit. They find the gate leading out of the temple, and realize they can trap him inside if they time their move right.

Xion: Ok.. now what?
Ezra: Follow me, I have an idea.

  They rush for the exit, with the Archangel blasting at them. They bolt out as the gate collapses, trapping the enemy inside. Ezra and Xion pant in exhaustion, relieved that they made it out alive and unharmed. Their relief is short-lived, as Xion suddenly breaks into tears. Ezra goes in to comfort her. She sobs in his arms.

Xion: Dad's gone... he's really gone...
Ezra: I'm sorry. Come on, we have to do this for him.
Xion: How could the Dokklafar allow such a terrible thing? They were supposed to help us.
Ezra: Maybe they're not the saviors they claim to be. Come on.

  Inside, the bodies of Belial, the Shadow Wolves, and Ikelon are disposed of. The Archangel returns to the others, his wings fading, and he kneels to them.

Archangel: They got away.
Dr. Claudandus: They saw what we were doing. If the population knows about it...
Ecelu: You must remember our words of wisdom. We are the saviors of Dinosauria, yes? Even if the two children talk, none will believe them. They will shun them. Cast them out. How can they not? To believe them is not to believe themselves. We have reigned a hundred years here. They only care that we deliver them from their suffering and into God's loving arms. Their extinction is nigh. Their salvation lies through absolute devotion.
