I prefer to think of Alderheart as a clutzy giant rather than a small marshmallow. The brown fur on his back is supposed to resemble bark, since in alder trees you have to peel back the bark to see the bright red color underneath. Maybe Alderheart was born brown but he kept shedding it as he grew, till now its only behind his head.
