Yes, very true.
I was reminded by the title of Simon Peter's denial of Jesus Christ, and then subsequently when he met the risen Lord, he was met with the question "Do you love me?". Jesus loved Simon Peter but, if Peter was to be His disciple, it was crucial that he loved Him back. But Jesus' love for us acme first - "We love Him because He first loved us"
