What's really cool is that those basalt columns look just like the ones recently found on Mars.

actually they are not that uncommon, you can see them everywhere on the world where there has been volcanic activity, those columns are formed when lava cools down very quickly.

Yes, but they only form in the presence of water. The rapid cooling agent is water. Basalt columns on Mars are one of the many pieces to the puzzle of Martian history that show it was very wet.

i love the mix of colors here! theres the green in the foreground and the beautiful blue waterfall with a brown rock backdrop with the pinkish sky in the background. amazing.

Damn...that should replace the shot of Aldeyjarfoss that Wikipedia is using for said entry...it's a much more breathtaking and majestic shot than what's being used currently (no offense to the photographer[s] of said article's current photograph).
