Hi Josh,
This really captured my eye, when I was going through the a.deviantart.net/avatars/a/p/a… " alt=" " title="apophysis"/> submissions.
I love spirals and I love Apophysis, A person can't go wrong at all with that combination.
Seeing this in full view is superb! I love the choice of gradient, and I know, people say that all the time, (I am one of them). Sometimes it takes me hours to find that "perfect" gradient, so I notice that in other fractal artist's work. As you know, it makes all the difference in the world. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/n/n… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title="Nod" />
What I specifically love about this gradient choice is that the different shades of blue and green give this entire flame a crystalline look. It is very beautiful. I also love the fact that you got the layers and layers of the spiral, know what I mean? The depth makes this look like it is "spiraling" down. Yeah, I know. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/r/r… " width="29" height="27" alt="" title="rofl" />
Seriously, I love this. You did good!

Wheres the emote for a giant grin? <- should do, lol.
Thank you for the critique! Quite honestly, this is one of my favorite works.. I hear its "Over worked" "too Busy" "grainy", which I can see.. but then again I'm working with an image 4x the size of what you see.. I have a 16x24 poster of this work on my wall and I'll tell ya... this smaller version doesn't do this image any justice lol

I bet it just knocks your socks off! You know, it is funny how sometimes the graininess (I call it dust), can do for a flame. Sometimes I think it detracts from it, and other times, I think it adds that umph to it! You know?
The very first time I did a white background in apophysis about 6 years ago, there was quite a bit of dust, and I didn't know anything about PSP or how to get rid of that effect. I left it of course, and left a message with it that I didn't know how to get it out of the image and quite a few people told me that they thought it gave the flame a better quality. So, you know, everyone has their own opinion, and different taste in art. What matters most is you liking it, I think!
By the way, I love your tag line!
That is sooo cool!

I like the luminescence & dimension this one has. Very Nice--as well as many others you have created--Love it!

I like the glowing like -dimensional flower look to this one

(I was going to place it as a critique... here it goes).
Hi Josh,
this piece really reminds the Impressionism movement. The gradient is the one I think Monet or Renoir would use in their pictures.
Also the way all small spirals interact with the main one, they seem some spread blossoms dancing in the wind, and not just crystals. They recall the spring, absolutely.
I guess it's the best fractal I've ever seen. Thanks for sharing such beauty with us.

That's a lot of crystals...
The blue colour of the center crystals are magnificent!

Hmm, the main pattern has a nice shape, and the detail of the luminescent folds is very interesting, I am afraid that this is too busy though
you might want to look into using xaos, or changing relative weighs of the transforms, to make all of the really small features less prominent. There is a lot to look at, and the small stuff is detracting from the main spiral pattern. It is possible to tone it down so the details are still there, but not screaming look at me.
when ~SabreSlushie mentioned static, I think they meant grain in your render. This can be fixed by either lowering your gamma(I'm guessing 3-2.5) in the render tab, or when you render using a higher quality (approximately 4000-10,000)
if you have any questions about this feel free to note me and I can explain in more detail and maybe show you a few test renders.

hmm.. I think your saying my gradient choice is off.. as far as static goes I think what your seeing is the color I chose

It looks like it has alot of static in it, try to smoothen it out.
