And yes, kitsune is Japanese for fox, although it often refers to the supernatural versions that have the ability to shapeshift, and grow more tails as they age. Up to 9, hence the Ninetails legend, and as such, the Pokemon Ninetales.

Yes, it even confuses me that the Pokemon one is spelled tales as in the story, and not actual tails. Yay for Pokepuns!
