Description This image is near the end of the transit (my camera timestamp was off by ~40 min) as Mercury (~ bottom left of sun) is heading back to the edge of the sun.

Celestron Advanced VX - 6 in Newtonian, Baader white light filter, Canon T3i at prime focus.

I have images of (nearly) the entire transit that I am working on assembling into both a timelapse and a composite image.  (Still trying to find/learn software to do this for free . . . ).

I have use "Windows Movie Maker" to connect time lapse photos together. I don't know it this is to simple of a program for what you need, but I like it because you can even insert music or voice recordings into the clips. Just a thought, I am always looking for free programs to use as well.

Well Lightroom has great features to make timelapses, but the pictures aren't aligned.  The scope tried to track the sun, but I had to make multiple adjustments to keep it in the frame, so if I stacked them as is, it would jump all over.

I can theoretically use a program called hugin (and maybe even GIMP) to do the alignment, but I have been having trouble learning how to get them to work for this application

How in the... That is... OMG that is freaking great! Did you use any filters or anything??? I am blown away, I want to try this!!!

Yeah, you need to use a filter you will at a minimum blind yourself/your camera, but more likely boil your eye/melt your camera.  Only use telescope filters, anything else is likely not strong enough (since telescopes amplify the light even more than the already blinding level).

I used a filter made using Baader solar film, which is pretty cheap.

Also, remember that this applies to your finderscope as well, most people just take the finderscope off so that they don't accidentally open it and melt the scope.

Thanks

Well, like I said, you can buy Baader solar film for like $25 and make your own holder, it it can be both easy or cheap
