Okay so these past couple months have been a struggle of trying to understand the FMA style and also make Syb look her age (because what does 30 even look like in the fma world?? Most of the women have really round faces and I have been having so much trouble with her looking like 16 hhhhhh) So I am sorry I have like 200 different drawings of her face but I think I am finally happy with it, and mostly happy with her colors OTL I will do more finished pieces soon I promise I just am finally getting the hang of this, forgive meee ;v;in the meantime enjoy whatever this is

She isn't really involved in anything important to the plot and isn't an alchemist / military / chimera / homunculus / automail user so its been hard trying to keep her interesting while pretty much being a fairly average person. Also having her brown hair and green eyes and just pretty average looking but still distinguishable has been a challenge. OTL
And she's nowhere near done but I'm glad I'm making progress ;v;

My newer oc. His name is Gavin. He's a real grump but once he gets emotional he cries a lot. He kinda acts like his younger sister but for a couple of years he was looking for her. So they could probably meet while he was traveling around.

And yeah, I have been referencing both versions of the anime, and the manga, but I actually never finished watching the 03 version. (All my favs die pretty early on and something about it just doesn't really appeal to me because I can't stay interested in it) So yeah, Brotherhood has probably had more influence on me.
Even though a lot of people seem to hate the brotherhood style, I admit that the animation got pretty lazy but I actually preferred the less saturated palettes and I guess I found the faces more realistically proportioned? Still not sure exactly why I prefer it, but I can imagine her better in Brotherhood / manga than the 03 version.

Oh, I can relate to that, I finished both Brotherhood and the manga multiple times over, but I just can't seem to finish the 03 anime.
Well, I do think that Brotherhood had some bad times, but I liked it anyway, it followed the manga timeline and yeah, the faces were better proportioned now that you mention it

She looks like a mature woman, indeed, the young women has, as you said, more rounded faces and when you grow up cheekbone and chin is more marked, in real life, so great drawing!

I don't try aging people because is something weird and stuff, the only thing I'm sure is that adding marks on around the eyes and mouth you can add years through an anime style, oh and also lose skin under the yaw! but that is for more older people...
Now that I think my mother is almost on her twenties and she looks really well for her age, like, I wouldn't say that she's over the 40s if I already didn't know her age LOL
it's complicated, I admire people that draw aging characters LOL

Yeah, my biggest problem is trying to figure out how people in their late twenties to thirties look in this style compared to characters in their teens since they don't have any wrinkles yet. But yeah drawing older people gets difficult ;v;

waaaah thank you so much! There are a lot of brown-haired ocs so I've been trying to keep her palette differentiable from them. Finding the right skin tone has been hell because her mom's side of the family is fairly dark skinned and there aren't many in-between characters to use for reference in the series OTL (Also since her hair is so dark she doesn't look tan at all until she's next to other characters |D ) Ahh the joys of character creation.

it's way more stressful when you try toΒ make good characters for pre-existing media to be honest, but you're already doing much better with your ocΒ than a lot of the superΒ popular artists in the fandom started out having. your character is pretty great and i do hope to see more of her :^O

If you don't mind I can give you a hand with the pallete ovo I think the base colours are great but the shadows and highlights could have a little correction, that's it (I can draw it for you if you allow me to XD).
