Description I love my old little gameboy pocket but I do wonder how I ever lived through a mobile gaming era without any back-lights or LED screens. Probably wasn't good for my eyes...

Meh. Still better than it's poor selling rivals from across the pond. And the original Advance model, come to think of it.

Ummm, reminds me of why i used mom's glasses to play gameboy when she got me one... could not see a darn thing... then i grew up and now i have a ds, best thing they did... the screen is twice as big... and thank god, i didn't remember how long i wanted to see the screen with my eyes wide open.

lmao I remember when they sold the lights that hook onto the top so it'll shine light onto the screen.

The GBP and GBL was both way better than the old DMG-01 in that regard, but it was still a really great system when it came out

Nowadays I play most of my GB games on my GBL exclusively though.

My sega Game Gear had a small screen but it was at least backlit. Same with my Sega Nomad... yeah, I had a Sega Nomad!

I remember if it wasn't "bight" enough you just adjusted the dial on the side and it got brighter.
It's because of that feature I could navigate the dark caves in red and blue without teaching my pokemon flash XD

The lightboy only blurred the screen even more and those small bulbs didn't really provide a great source of light

Haha, I found mine the other day as well! xD I remember the times when I thought a battery that lasted over 2 hours was freakin' amazing.

Those were the days, man, those were the days.

Despite having spent countless hours playing game-boy
and reading
and staring at a computer screen at a relatively constant distance
I still have fine eye-sight

well I guess that's because you also were small. like when you ere a little kid, the gameboy and the screen where like giant!

I have mine but the glass screen is cracked clean off. Other than that the only game I had was tetris; that being said, I was perhaps the most patient child in existence.

I got my glasses about a year after I got my Gameboy. XP

Coincidences????????

Perhaps.

I'm ashamed to say that I can't look at a Gameboy without feeling a smidgeon of pure unadultured rage at how it still managed to be more popular than the GameGear.

Oh GameGear, you had color AND backlighting in a time of dark, dark Gameboys...

Yeah, I never played on the color or pocket, but the Gameboy Advanced was aweful! I blame it for making me suck bullocks at pokemon.

a;sdlkjaf;lkj HOWEVER--!! The Gameboy Advanced SP will always be my homie~! vuv I might dig her out and see what's going on in FF Tactics Advanced. I never did finish that...

Not many people remember it, or count it as a Final Fantasy game, at least from my encounters. D=
I call BS, because it says "Final Fantasy" right in the title!

This with the added stupidity of playing it at night under my covers with a flashlight is exactly the reason I need glasses. I am sure of it.

Wow. Irony. I just got a copy of Pokemon Blue in the mail today. Learned the joy of non-backlit, mono-chrome games on really tiny screens.

Once there was a week-long blackout due to an ice storm when I was a kid. I tried to play Pokemon by the sun/cloudlight coming in through the window.

Been there done that. That was probably the closest I've ever gotten in tune with nature as a kid.

I climbed a tree once and found a giant stick, so I think I'm as in tune with nature as kids get.

Hahah, this is too true. Even playing my old ps2 as opposed to a 360 was a drastic enough change. But Gameboy, pfft. I don't know how we did it in the first place.
