Description
There he lay, whitewashed in all his smug self-satisfaction. The broad, heart-shaped head seemed flat-hammered - almost as if one could open it in two halfs, like an old-fashioned locket - and it caressingly stretched itself over the first body coils.
Two rubies beamed at the upper side of this locket and they both marked the clasp that one had to push to open its maw. The eyes were positioned deep down at the nose under an armoured protuberance and when they glanced down at this blunt and angular nose, they would meet a slit from where, sometimes, a black darting flame was flickering out. He had a pan's mask and over his large back part of the head with all the venom's factory inside, there lay a pair of mischievous horns, painted in plack ink. Where they stood apart, the zig-zag pattern would start.
Man calls his dark and shadowlike back pattern "Cain's mark"; this is how one can identify and punish him. He himself, though, he would have seen it the other way round: A trace of the Creator's finger when he stroke him over his forehead; with this, his hand had blessed him as well. He was hideous and of lesser breed, condemned to get crushed under the feet of Man; but it shall not be easy for him to do so! There was not even a grain of evil in his body; and yet, there was one advantage he had over many else - within his tooth, he hid one spark of that very lightning that the punishing God had once sent out to the garden of Eden. Captured in a single drop he would carry it with him, making it over to following generations. With its help, he got himself his needs and with its help, he opposed. But woe betide the human foot that would inflame this spark, receiving the descendants of that divine lightning from Paradise injected in their blood!
