So, I first saw one of your pieces about 5+ hours ago (after 2 hour I pre-ordered "The Fox and the Crow"). Since then I'm looking at drawing after drawing, trying to make some sense of the whole "Black and Red Book business" and it drives me crazy. I did some "research" and read most of the other comments for clues and made this account only so I can partake in solving the mystery surrounding the foxes. I now have some theories of my own... Whatever the story actually is about, I think it has something religious, because the themes of life, death and (in my opinion) reincarnation are often used. I also see some parallels to Watership Down, maybe because of the eerie and mystical atmosphere...
Here is what I think about this one: What the two demons (who could be these guys? culpeo-fox.deviantart.com/art/… did, changes the story around Never (?) completely, for better or worse. That's why the title is "Peripeteia". It seems like she is in a very dark place where she was asleep/unconcsious for a while and suddenly woke up (therefore the startled expression). Maybe the butterflies really represent a strong feeling of love like Sabaku-No-Kaze said but in Japan f.e. butterflies can also be viewed as the souls of the living/dead. Although I don't know why there is only one brown-red butterfly.
I will continue to follow your work, because your drawings/paintings really are amazing and their story has truly captivated me. But now I have to go back to the real world.

I can't help but think there's supposed to be a lighter theme here, but maybe I'm drawing too much from the lighter, more cheerful colors you used in the outlines.
