Although popular with commanders for its combination of heavy main gun, twin heavy machine-guns and go-anywhere mobility [albeit with a limited top speed], the AGW-O I was never popular with its crews.
Complaints included the lack of on-mounting traverse, necessitating liaising with the driver when the gunners limited articulation override was insufficient to lay the main gun; slow rate-of-fire due to the weight of the two-part ammunition; drivers having to double as gunners for the twin HMGs; and the poor accessibility of the central engine bay.

With the decline of fixed fortifications, the AGW-O I was gradually relegated to training duties or special-purpose conversions, where the chassis' ability to carry a heavy load was popular.
