Description Because doodles and Severus = happy me. I decided to play in Art Rage, and of course ended up drawing Sev. I really enjoyed the way it came out (one of my best, most accurate to head canon ever!), but I figured I'd color it in Photoshop. So I did! Funzies. I wish I were better at that cool painted look. His lovely locks and face came out pretty well, but the coat could use some work. I'll learn one day. c: Either way, all the Sev loves. Because he's so smexy.

Line art done in Art Rage, coloring in Photoshop, with a Wacom Bamboo Capture tablet.

Severus Snape (c) JK Rowling.

I think half of the smexiness comes from the coat, and ya did an awesome job. Head cannon = yell yeah, girl!
Then I had to go look up what Art Rage was. Since I can't draw, (see the Cedric Diggory fail I just uploaded omg) any paint program that might inspire me to try different things would be cool.
Sigh. Thank goodness for tutorials.
Oh, and his JAW omg his JAW *licks*
you rock, girl

Thank you! Yes, it's a true victory when one achieves the absolute vision they set out for, no matter the medium! I got that way when I made my Sev Sim, I just wanted to make a me and have his babies! LOL!!!

I had such a hard time with that coat... But I haven't figured out the most efficient and clean way to paint large areas. And I love his coat, it's one of the things that makes him HIM! xD I've got so much to learrrrrn! xD But it's always a labor of love. c: At least with Sev, haha!

And I loved your Cedric! But I understand your feelings. We're all always our worst critics too. And it's true that finding the right medium makes a big difference. I work better on the tablet than in traditional mediums anymore, since I don't have a drafting table or proper set up so that my work looks correct instead of skewed via perspective. And that lit a fire under my bottom. So I agree, trying different programs and mediums to find that perfect fit is a great way to find that spark! Art Rage is a really good program. It's got so many realistic textures for the paper look and the brushes and all of that. You can really create a true painting in it. But I find Photoshop to be a bit cleaner, especially for some things. I love the clipping mask thing. I also hear Manga Studio is great for line art, but I haven't gotten that yet. I think that's the best, when you can mix and match your programs for different things. I have found I like to do line art in Art Rage, because the ink pen tool is AWESOME, but I like to color (at least for certain styles) in Photoshop, because I like the "Airbrush Pen Opacity Flow" for the way it layers so smoothly.

Yeah, without tutorials I'd be lost in life!! Though sometimes even tutorials can't teach me. xD That's when it's sad and frustrating lol! I look at it and go, "WHY ISN'T MINE LOOKING LIKE THAT?!?!?!?" D'oh. xD

I actually snorted REALLY loudly when I read 'Sev Sim and have his babies' - Okay, I totally admit that I do the same thing with my Sims. I'm not sure if we're just that pathetic OR just that creative! Maybe a wonderful combination? heheh
I know what you mean about large areas. Even with colored pencil, and trying to pay attention to shading and lines...I just don't know enough. I'd really love to take an art class someday. I'll be in my mid 40s before that can happen, though.
I've been using Gimp, but even with a supposedly 1 pixel pen tool, things end up either too big or too little; I've got to remember to have the zoom at the exact same level and whatnot. I had the demo version of Photoshop for awhile, but by the time the trial was up, I was juuuusttt learning how to use it.
Bah humbug. Guess I'll just stick with posting things to amuse those who really can draw and make them feel better about their own art lol.
Even with the tutorials, I still feel like a horcrux.

I think both of those are required for true fangirlishness! xD They fuel each other!

I had fully intended to go to art school when I was a young lass, but ended up working a crappy job to help take care of my grandmother. I regret not finding a way to work both out, but I never regret being there for her. Now, though, I just have that apathetic/miserable attitude of "What's the point? I'm too old and there are people younger than me that are better than I am. Why bother?" and then husband yells at me. xD (Not meanly, but supportively.) In reality there is no such thing as too old, especially considering 31 is not old at all! It really is hard when you compare yourself to others. That's what I do. :c And then instead of drawing until I get better, I just don't draw for a year or two and then NEVER improve. So I could say, "Never give up! Just keep practicing and you can do it!" and no matter how much I mean it and how true it is, I'd be a hypocrite for saying it. xD So I'll just say, "TRY!" because that's all any of us can really do.

I used to use Gimp, and it was a cool program. I just didn't like how it was set up compared to Photoshop. PS is one big window, for the most part, but Gimp kind of floated around. xD But other than that, it's definitely a great program. A lot of the ease for me came once I got the tablet, because I had that same problem! Lines were never how I wanted! But with the pressure of the tablet, it comes out a lot better. I used to use Illustrator to "live trace" my hand inked stuff to make it smooth, but it generally came out too clunky or uneven. It was fine if I made chunky line art for cute stuff, but not for detailed thin line work. Made me want to punch a house elf. T_T

It sucks that art is one of those hobbies that requires you to have a big ego. xD If you aren't your own biggest fan, it's so difficult to keep going. Just gotta do what my husband says: Find what makes your art special, and focus on that. Be it a certain style, or your sense of humour, find what makes you you in your art. Because everyone has something that makes them special.

Of course he said it in a little less lame, and put it from a business perspective, comparing it to his company that he works for. But the message is there. xD (Of course when he said it I shot it down with, I don't have anything special! I'm just mediocre! And after a few tries he shook his head and dropped it lol. Because I'm my own worst enemy. xD)

Lol, yeah, that's true... Though I imagine he's gotta let his hair down once in a while! This is not one of those moments unfortunately. xD
