Timetravelers © me.October 2008. Done after a six month break, the third after a seven year break. Since I don't copy straight from a ref, their eyes are way too big, but too late now.
Faber-Castel colour pencils.
Left to right: Heather Lockleah, Vivianna River, Jane Smith, Isobel Cash.
Heather is a dominitrix who gives Vivianna's discarded suitors therapy, and likes to kill bad people, which Jane objects to, because she has a reputation to maintain. Heather retorts Jane had destroyed worlds, so what is she complaining about?
Vivianna's got a bad taste in men, but that's no problem, she'll break their wallets first, and besides, she's married. Jane complains she is spoiling her mojo.
Jane's a timetraveller who will rescue you, destroy the monster, but you have to clean up the mess. She disregards ordinary people, which drives the others crazy; problem solved; move on, people, let's go surfing, whoo, fun! but after a good cuppa tea, thank you very much.
Isobel watches their antics and keeps her mouth shut. Most of the time.

Thank you. This is an old work, but still I make those mistakes. I don't see the mistakes in the faces until it's finished.
I absolutely hate doing skin tones, so I'm glad that looks OK.

I like the realism of this piece dispite the "anatomy issuses". Looks like a group of people my wife would hang out with.

The shading is great here! So is the coloring. I really like the way you did this. Feels so real, yet not completely photo-like. It's probably the texture and colors.
My only thing is that the lady 2nd to the left has weird eyes(to me).

It still looks okay. It's just that the thumb format makes her look like she has chameleon eyes.

Thank you! I use multiple refs, so have to decide who's standing where, and how, etc. to make the whole thing cohesive. Which is the fun bit.

Well, your shading is really good on this, like you said, it's just some anatomy issues. I think Jane's shoulders are too broad and her fingers are thin, but hands are super hard to draw without reference. Something else is that the lips seem too strongly outlined. I love the shading on Heather's face.

Yeah, the lip thing; it's a bad habit. Jane's fingers are supposed to be thin, but they're too thin, and her hand is too small. Maybe I should colour her lips a deeper red.

There's something implicitly creepy about this, which is a compliment. It's traditional in terms of aesthetics, but I feel like there's more.

You're the fourth person to have this impression, must be the colours. I never got these comments on the B&W version.
The middle two are aliens, one of the humans (Heather) is a dominitrix. Not the most comfortable people to be around. Maybe that's it?

I think it's the facial structure - everything seems serene and normal, but their eyes are disturbing.
