Description Agate can have amazing patterns. This is a close up of a natural blue agate my dad once used a book end. It weighs five pounds and is a half sphere with a polished face. My dad said the other half fell and shattered many years ago (before I was born) and he gave the pieces to a friend who made jewelry out of it. So it lives on despite the accident.

I always loved the cool blue colors and amazing layers this piece has!

I'm surprised Agate can actually shatter when dropped.ย

Agate is in the quartz family so it's fairly robust, but it can still break when struck with a dense object...or fall on concrete which is what happened to the other half of this stone. Quartz is pretty resistant to strikes and scratches so it's a great stone to be polished or made into jewelryย

I thought this was some rare phenomenon on Saturn/Jupiter... Looks like a surface of a gas giant.

for a split second i thought this was a birdseye shot of a beach, the blue being the ocean and the white being the sandy shore haha
