His role on he show was similar to that haha, he did have to act as a ringmaster of sorts for all of the other smaller acts (mostly puppets and the like)

He certainly seems happy with his life and the career he chose!

Unfortunately he was unceremoniously fired and blacklisted from his industry many years ago (his planet doesn't have a kind view on homosexuality...), which has led to his current state of depression and paranoia - but without this happening he would have never met his husband, so he's a bit conflicted.
He still loves performing though, in my head he sounds a bit like Meat Loaf?Β
