Every morning at opening time the customers would be lining up outside, banging on the doors, waving fistfuls of coupons, and returning the items that they had purchased yesterday.
A good first job, sure... but never again.

The public is truly the worst...β¦ It's not just in retail, but in the medical field, food service, etc.
This pic makes me think of Aggressive Retsuko. That anime is so relatable. The best one out of all the ones I've watched.

I once worked at McDonald's. And every comment in this pic is an perfect example of how people are like.
They demand everything, they give no respect. I know McDonald's is expensive but this is the price people pay for being lazy. You want to eat a burger? Don't want to make Yourself? Pay for it. Oh, the price too high? What a shame... And it wouldn't be a problem, they want to eat for less, everyone want. But why blaming workers for what the company does. It's not the single worker that creates a rules. Cashier won't change the price for one guy, who is just fricking rude. And people still eat McD for that price so company won't change it. And the urgeΒ for eating at McD is so high that people are literally like wild animals, like some uncultural beasts.
And I know it's not only in food service. But IMO everyone should have been forced to work in services, e.g. McD or any other. People would learn humility. Would see how it is to serve others, who are always dissatisfied. Who comes to public places JUST to make some fuss. Just to argue with other people, they came to places FOR being mad at it. Some people of course.

I feel your pain. It's a pain that's felt across the workforce. I've been a dental receptionist and the patients' attitudes were terrible. They'd skip appointments or come in when they'd want to. I'd schedule an entire family of people for a time slot, prepare everything and then they'd never show up. Wasted all of that time and money lost. Some also acted like I was the one in control of the insurance coverage. All I did was submit the proper codes to the insurance company to request payment. We always made sure to only perform services that each patient's insurance covered, but sometimes, the insurance would throw us a curveball.Β
The problem, is workers aren't seen as people, but servants. "Work harder slave! My burger isn't ready yet!" or "How dare you reprimand me for my countless skipped appointments?" Customers/patients also hold no accountability for their own mistakes and wrong-doings. The customer is not always right.

I remember one woman when I was waiting for the dentist. Another patient had unexpected problem and they had to do something extra, that wasn't planned. She was like I HAVE TO WAIT LONGER!? HOW DARE THEY! I WENT TO MY HOUR AND STILL HAVE TO WAIT!? So i know... I wonder what it would be if she was just on the check and sudennly they found something and another patient would say they won't wait. Some people are terrible.
An yeah, workers are seen as slaves by both bosses and customers. Not all, but usually. Yeah, customers/patients aren't in charge of anything, cause they demand people to be at their service. They thin worker HAS TO do what they want. Even if they literally doesn't do what they are supposed to. People have coupons. But they are expired. HOW COME! I WANT MY OFF!!! Etc... And people at McD for example are probably pigs. They eat like it and leave mess that I haven't seen ANYWHERE else, even with 5yo kids eating. They literally can't clean the tiniest thing. They leav trays with wrapping papers of burgers, boxes etc on the table. They don't care that in 5 minute someone would like to take the seat. And trays, even if left on the right place, they in complete chaos cause it's so hard to put the tray on tray, not anywhere else in any weird way. Ketchup is everywhere on tray and table... this is terrible. They have no shame doing such things.
Fortunatelly I don't work at McD anymore. And I really feel bad for all the people who do.

Patients and customers can be very childish in their demands. They often tend to forget that they're not the only ones that go to doctors and stores.
Yes indeed! People are pigs. There's no question about it. In restaurants, stores, bathrooms, on public transit etc. (I refuse to use public restrooms unless it's a dire emergency. If I do, I always line the toilet seat with 5 rows of toilet paper.) I've seen an elderly man pee on the bus and not blink.Β
Good for you. Unfortunately, McD'sΒ is a starter job for many people. I really like working at libraries. They seem to be pretty cool to work at. Of course, you still have your oddball patrons, but I've never encountered any personally. (I'm actually a volunteer for the library's book sale.)

DORUmonXXX In reply to CrescentNubila [2019-01-31 12:10:27 +0000 UTC]
They tend to forget also that workers are not robots, nor their servants. They are just workers that has some duties to do, not serve whatever they think of.
Oh man, peeing on the bus. Gross. Library sounds cool, tbh. I "worked" in library when I was in secondary school, actually in school's library. I voluntarily helped in my free time. And now I seek some kind of warehouse job, it's also free of idiots, demanding ridiculous things. I just work with other people, doing stuff so the packages would be delviered. If I find such job, I will definitely take it.

CrescentNubila In reply to DORUmonXXX [2019-02-02 17:17:05 +0000 UTC]
Exactly.
Yeah, public transportation has its ups and many downs. But a lot of people would be in trouble if no public transportation existed.
The library is awesome. I volunteer in their daily book sales and we volunteers can take whatever we like in the storage for free! It doesn't matter how much stuff we take. I've found some amazing and rare stuff in there. The libraries here sell lots of stuff besides books. They sell DVDs, audiobooks, sometimes rare coins and video games. Once I found a working Nintendo DSi that someone had donated! I only had to buy a charger and styluses for it, but how cool is it to find a free Nintendo DSi?!? :-D
I've heard some horror stories of warehouse jobs, but hopefully you'll find one that suits you. It's a lot of work and long hours. You're doing a ton of physical work: lifting, stooping, walking, etc. Check out the website Glassdoor. It's a website where employees of every corporation leave their feedback and input. Check there before applying to any job. You may be saving yourself from a lot of trouble.Β www.glassdoor.com/index.htm

Woah, nice.Β
Also yeah, it's good we have public transport, even if there are cons.
Actually I found prettty light warehous job, as it's small packages only. I don't know if there is something like that outside my country but we have something that could be translated into Parcel-o-mat. We have such things in many locations through the country and when You order something You can chose such aprcel-o-mat and the courier will take Your package to specific point. You just then get the SMS and e-mail message and You can take Your package when You like. Actually You have 72 hours and if not collected, it goes back to the warehouse, then goes back to the sender. But You just go to the parcel-o-mat point Yoiu have chosen, wirte Your phone number and the code You got in SMS and the specific lock with Your package opens. You take the package and go home. So You don't have to be at home when You order something! You just get the info, Your order arrived and go whenever You like within 72 hours And because those parcel-o-mats have limited space locks, the packages are small too. So I will be working for them. it's good cause I find this job pretty easy, I like the company and use their services and the people I met were also cool So it's win-win situation
Also I don't think this Glassdoor site will work, cause I'm pretty much sure almost nobody in my country even uses that. And I looked there and there was some of the employers but not much actually.

That's great that the work you do is manageable and you enjoy! :-D That sounds like a really neat service! In the US we have Post Office Boxes and it's very similar to what you described.Β
