Description Artemis discovers a solitary set of hoofprints in the far reaches of the Free Kingdom of the North.
On YouTube: [X ]

Traditional and digital animation combined. I wanted to have all the characters be traditionally animated, but I faced time constraints (hence all the corners I cut to get this done - including not fixing Artemis' leg color in the first half).

First place in Rannie-kins' "You and Me" contest, Artemis being her OC.
Detail 1, Crowne Prince fades away
Detail 2, Artemis holding sword

Ever since Double Rainboom, everybody's been using premade or modified models, so it's not rewarding for me anymore to make my own models or copy the MLP style line for line. Thought I would try something fresh. What do you guys think?

Time: 40-50 hours
Tools: Flash CS4, Photoshop CS4, a mechanical pencil, and the most ghetto lightboard ever, made out of a stack of plastic crates, a piece of plexiglass, and a desk lamp.
Music: "Thanks to the Gods" by Zero Project

How long did it take you to get a film submission review, by chance? DA has yet to approve or respond to any of the ones I've sent in, even though I have plenty to show. :T

I was going to suggest you apply, but I see you already figured it out.

Actually, let me try something. *sends invite*

If that lets you skip the long process that would be great. I applied at the end of December 2009 and got accepted March 2010, so three months.

I don't like MLP and I'm sick of seeing things copied/, traced even, or just recoloured.

It's great seeing something that someone has made themselves and if there was a sequel to this, I'd actually watch it.

Wow. You win.

XD But seriously, this is totally awesome! An animation!? I totally never expected someone to submit an animation to her contest. Great work! I love it!

Wha... an.. an ANIMATION!

on the constructive critism side I must point out that the spacial sense is thrown off during the walking, due to the strides and pace simply not matching the amount of ground that should have been covered. Just something to work on.

but begrudgingly, I believe I have already lost

good job though!

I have a few critics but as some of this is a bit sketchy poking I imagine this was more of practice then a final draft kind of thing. Regardless, this is really well done and even without words or a Pre-story to go with it the animation weaves a very nice story of it's own. I always love animations that can do that without confusing the viewer. Excellent job

Wow . . .

I wouldn't ask you to slave away at it or anything, but this needs to be, like, 15 or 20 minutes long. It's just so beautiful, and reminds me of animations like The Snowman.

I wish there was a LIKE button on dA. Nice work, even with all the corner cutting

Only thing that could be better is the walking cycle, but I know that`s something hard to do.
I liked the fresh, not-100%-show-accurate style, it works well with the also "inaccurate" background. In short, it`s consistent and beautiful

CrownePrince In reply to Videogamer-Phil [2012-09-30 01:19:58 +0000 UTC]

It's supposed to be a trot, not a walk and not a gallop. That is what made it difficult. I'm happy with how it turned out, but for it to look smooth it needs another set of inbetween frames and more up/down bounce movement "Weight" is something I'm getting a sense for as I go.

Thanks.

Hey bud, quite randomly, in comments made by you on this deviation your boxes are a different colour and you're coming up as 'creator'. How does one go about doing that? Is it for animation only?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CrownePrince In reply to Cuddlepug [2012-10-01 16:55:16 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's for this category of DeviantArt submission only - the Film & Animation category. I had to apply to be able to submit to it, too. [link]

I'm hoping that now that DeviantArt has been making different interface updates, they'll have 'creator comments' for all deviations eventually.

Oh really? you know now that I think about it that sounds like a great idea!
I mean, it would allow me to make complete dipshits like you feel bad!
OH I'm sorry did I hurt your feelings?
This is not a place where we come to make people feel bad, this is a place for people to learn, to try something, and if they screw up we aren't assholes, we tell them what they did wrong and how they can get better.
Looking through your gallery, you have your merits, but that does not give you ANY right to try and put others down.
Now GO READ A BOOK! Maybe you'll learn a little somethin'.

I'm glad to hear that. I took a bit of a risk not going over the idea with , but I really wanted it to be a surprise. *laughs*

Artemis' outfits are great, and with the wintry setting of the campaign it kinda just came into my head to enter the contest this way. Plus, I wanted to try traditional animation.

Anyway, best of luck with the rest of the contest!
