I've been drawing mine in 300x300 pixels, so when i need to compress it too the required 128x128 pixels it doesn't loose much quality (I used to draw it in 128x128, but thats not much to work with XD )
I just looked on the forums for people asking for some. I do all mine for free, just for the fun of it, so i generally get picked up on commissions. For selling, I guess just do the same but offer your price per hour and average time for creating or something.
