Wow. Thanks for the rather long feedback you gave me. I'll be sure to work on the things you mentioned. This was done a while back when I was really first learning this sort of style of coloring and didn't have much experience or know how. I didn't read any tutorials (they don't help me much) and I sorta just jumped into photoshop and tried experimenting with the program to see what I could come up with.

The only stuff I really use tutorials for is learning what kind of gradients, brushes, filters and ect can be used for. I kinda just play around with it after reading it trying to see how I can make it my own.
Yeah...though I do admit that some of my recent coloring stuff has been rather quick works because I want to get my to do list done so I can start on my personal project that I've been trying to start for a while now. I'm not really sure how to get a decent lineless work going. I've tried using the airbrush, using the burn and dodge tool and even just a hard brush and trying to smudge it. I really wanna be able to color in a similar way to since I've really fallen in love with her art. Obviously I don't want to copy her style completly, but I would love to be able to do something similar.
oh! XD I forgot. Another time I only ever really use tutorials is when I'm trying how to replicate an official style for an anime or something. You know, how to do SA style color or Sonic battle color. I always fail at them though >_<

Hahah, I was just looking at her work before I read this reply!
Tutorials can be useful when they are about method eg. HOW to do a particular function in an art program, how the program works, what method you can use etc. When they start telling you how you should draw, I find them a bit stupid. However, there are some useful tutorials I've seen that are presented more like a guide, they don't tell you how you should draw but give you guidence on what type of things you need to be thinking about.
I suppose a tutorial on how to replicate a style is useful too for the purposes of replicating something, I think the artist reading the tutorial would have to keep in mind that such a tutorial is for a particular style, and therefore take it with a pinch of salt.
I would recommend against using dodge, blur and smudge, as they basically use a computer preset to alter your picture. This is no match for the human eye and brain... when a tool tells your art program "21.527x darker" or whatever, it will not look as good as you simply choosing the colour yourself (as you will know what look you are going for and what colour/tone of shading looks best far better than the computer does). It's a more long-winded process, but produces much better results, and returns control to the artist rather than handing it over to the computer. For shading and highlights, I highly recommend using layers rather than altering the original base colour.
That artist is using fine, very precise lines and shading with a precise method (airbrush or paintbrush probably using layers). She's also using various other techniques - most distinctively, she is using a particular tone for the shadows in most of her artwork (shadows that are not simply a darker version of the base colour - they are tinted with another colour). She also makes some areas look brighter by colouring areas that would normally be white with a different colour (in this picture [link] white areas like the gloves are coloured pink) but its done in such a way, because pink matches the overall shading tone, that our eye recognizes that these pink areas are actually white, so that's what our brain sees, white with a pinkish hue then, areas that have a brighter colour (she used cyan, but the same would be true if she had used actual white) look even brighter and shiner than ever!

I used to use those two tools when I first started using Photoshop but stopped as I learned about the airbrush. Thankfully I've been talking to Myla and getting to know her a bit better. She even wrote me a massive thing just on how she does her "lineless" effect and how she colors.

I blurred them because at first they didn't look right or they blended in with the shading too much. Same with the noses, because they looked really odd when I colored them any more shiny, since they aren't made out of a shiny rubber if you know what I mean? XD I usually make them really shiny in my other coloring style because it's more cartoon like, if that's the word?
Thanks. I always color Shadow with that shade of red because I personally think it looks better with his black fur than a brighter color of red. Also, this shade of red always seems to come out awesome when I do shading on it XD
Thanks. I only did the color though, awesome friend did the sketch. ^_^

It looks good. The coloring style makes the lines appear thicker than in the original, but, apart from that, well done.
