Love the background! Was it glazed? I cant tell D:
Try getting a ruling pen for masking, but toothpicks can work too

Thank You... The darker parts are some what glazed (at the time I did not know that term applied). I started with wet on wet (lots of water, perhaps too much) using a premixed red, blue/black and sepia in different areas. The paper was doing something funky at the time (the instructor noticed it too) and parts picked up less color than others. After it dried, I went back with the darker around the edges of the chess pieces and at the bottom.
Thanks for the tip. I tried the toothpick and will definitely try a ruling pen.

Its wonderful. I use wet in wet a lot, and loads of water. Your paper probably buckled being unevenly wet, some parts will raise and the color will always pool lower. I had loads of trouble with that, even with the thickest paper, till I started stretching it.

Good question. There are many reasons I suppose. I used to play with them a long time ago and still had some on hand, so I figured I would give them a try again. I've also been playing with different paint mediums to see which one I like the best and want to pursue next. Another reason is I found it is more cost effective in the sense that a little goes a long way, which I like. I also like the transparency and the challenge of knowing that I can't just paint over an area with white when I mess up.
