Description
Jesus called the crowd to him and said, "Listen and understand. What goes into a man's mouth does not make him 'unclean', but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him 'unclean'."
(Matthew 15:10-11)

Many of the religious leaders of the time were obsessed with traditions: Ancient rituals, sacraments, customs and food laws that had grown over time and become a routine. They felt that by doing these things it would make them more holy, more clean or more moral.. It didn't.
God doesn't care about us washing our hands and feet, or confessing our sins, or eating the correct foods... if we're just gonna get our hands dirty again, sin again, or judge others for what they eat. It is the evil thoughts, full of hatred and lust and jealousy that comes from our hearts, that make us almost permanently 'unclean'.

It wasn't Jesus who was breaking the laws of God, it was the humans who twisted the laws so much that they no longer resembled the life-enriching principles of a loving God.
He doesn't need ritual piety, lip service or fragrant sacrifices.
He wants a transformed heart, unbiased mercy and practical love.
