Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?" (Matthew 14:31)

Jesus was walking on water and told Peter to come out to him to prove that it was really him and not some projection or mirage. Sometimes we, like Peter, have the courage to step off the boat for the first few steps. It's amazing to see yourself walk on water, or do something you've never been capable of, or be someone you never thought you'd be. But when the winds pick up and our feet start to sink, do we start to doubt?

Peter had just experienced a miracle, a moment where God 'bent the rules of this world' or 'twisted fate'. Yet in a moment where trouble, difficulty or opposition looms, we also tend to forget that God is in control.

After they got back onto the boat, the winds completely died down and his disciples acknowledged him as the Son of God. The storm-wind wasn't there by accident. No storm in life is merely an accident, for every breeze and every gale is a brushstroke of God to tell his story in our lives. And he wants us to know it and trust him.
