My grandpa's father was a radio technician for the Navy during WW2 and my grandmother's uncle was at D-Day.

Fantastic! My late father-in-law helped build the Mulberry Harbours.

I think we used those after D-Day.

Also, one of my O.C.s is a WW2 vet. An interesting one too. Even did some research and listed the battles he was in.

Yes but they were fundamental for resupplying the beachhead. I must do another OC too.

"The Black Bear sir?"

"The Black Bear."

Yes for sure, or Bill Millin piping the lads ashore at Normandy......

I can't remember all the marches Lovat asks for off-hand, but Millin only ever plays the Black Bear (It's a good march but some people are bound to know enough about pipe music to know he's only playing one specific tune).

The Black Bear is a good march for sure.

I'd agree with thesketchydude13 that it's a Dodge, but I think it's a half-ton rather than a threequarter-ton version.

It's the Command Car variant--the Weapons Carrier, Ambulance, and Command Car all share the same Dodge running chassis

It isn't the Willy's Jeep as such as it has different styling on it which makes me think that the basis is the Jeep but this is perhaps a licence built version or it was the replacement. I don't know who it is by though Andy, sorry.
Looks chunky though and that grill wouldn't look out of place on a small lorry of some description!

Apparently it's a Dodge Ben! It does look chunky!

Wow but it doesn't surprise me to hear it is a Dodge. Cracking example as it looks in spot on nick. What age is it?

1940-45 apparently.

Ah right...Then I wonder when the Willy's jeep was produced because there looks to be similarities to me and you cannot help but assume a little use of someone else's ideas happened.

Even if that is not the case it is a great looking vehicle...and I do like that grill

I have done a bit of digging on the internet Ben and I get the impression that the Dodge and the Willys jeep were contemporaries, with the Dodge being a light truck and the Willys a 'light utility' vehicle. The phrase 'Command Reconnaissance' seems to have been applied to both unless I have misread the descriptions.

Yes the grill is very cool!

Also BritishGypsum4 - When I was researching variants, I discovered that the quarter and half ton Dodges were called "Jeeps" before Willys Overland built their first prototype.
