Description Jorōgumo, a creature of Japanese folklore, is a spider that can transform into a beautiful woman in order to seduce men and devour them.

However, this seemed to be based more on the idea of a half-spider/half-woman creature, not just a spider that can transform.

So, this is easily my best traditional piece yet. I just hate that my camera had to sap out all the color and detail. Trust me, it's around 50 times more impressive in real life. Anyways....

Done with watercolors, acrylic paint, and colored pencil on watercolor paper.

A redback, nice! VERY AUSSIE! Have you heard of the redbacks on the dunnies/thunderboxes? Sorry, a bit confusing, right? I like the elegant yet FERAL look about her; the ancient yet modern feel; the human yet inhuman stare. The painting seems to contradict itself and is an oxymoron in itself.

A few questions:

Does she have eyes (with pupils)? How many (8?)?

Does she ever become fully spider? If so, how big is she in Spider form?

Does she ever become fully human?

(How old is she? Has she killed anyone? Does she have a family?) WHAT IS HER STORY?

Right let's start,here..

hmm the vision is good overall,
however the color of the subject's can be more skin can be more eye catching, thus making it appear seperated from the background.

The idea of your depiction is certainly genuine as far as my eyes have seen the depiction of this creature,as usually they are depicted very ugly, having a spider's body or extremely beautiful having the spider's body.
Therefore, the whole idea of this creature having spider legs and fangs on her face, and having spider web as a hair, while still looking relatively pretty is genuine.

The technique used is good,it doesn't look messy,or patchy and gives the wavy feel of the hair.

The impact is at the hair is very well achieved, the shine and everything, but as the whole picture itself the feel of "beautiful dangerous being" is small, the upper area of the face should be shadowed so that she appears more "aloof" and threatening.

Well that's all I've got to say,by the way, does the crest on her forehead was inspired by Ben10?

Thanks for the critique! And haha, I didn't even see the resemblance to the Ben10 symbol.... It must just be embedded in my mind from hours of childhood television watching...

Sometimes you worry me. Also, I have a complaint. This looks nothing like Alex. However, I must admit that this is quite impressive (despite its inaccuracies). The hair is realistically shiny and very hair-like (if that's at all helpful). The part is a bit wobbly, but nothing that's hard to fix. I love how the spider hanging behind her looks as if it were hanging from a strand of hair itself; very nicely done. The eyebrows are a bit uneven/asymmetrical, but faces are not generally symmetrical, so I guess the imperfections help remind you that she is human. The hourglass makes her all the more deadly and frightening. I also find the fangs quite delightful indeed. My favorite part of her is perhaps the blank, staring eyes that seem to work their way into your soul like a maggot crawls its way through rotting flesh. No need to thank me for what I imagine was a wonderful mental image.

The hybrid aspect reminds me of what I've seen in real jorogumos. When in human form, they still have the extra eyes & chelicerae. They also still have the spinnerets. Basically, on real jorogumos (I used to date 1), the anatomy remains the same when they assume human form (aside from contorting to fit the shape): the abdomen goes where the buttocks would be (with spinnerets at the top of the butt-crack), the pedipalps become the arms), they breath through their hips, stuff like that.
