I've been really interested in the idea of book illustration lately. And I have been heavily inspired by the wonderfull work of Mary Blair, and Lorelay Bove!Mary Blair of course did development art for Disney in the 50's and 60's (Alice, Cinderella, Peter Pan, and she designed "It's a Small World")
Lorelay Bove is currently a development artist for disney and she designed the look of the "Almost There" sequence and she also did character/costume designs. You should check out the "Frog" Little Golden book she designed...pure artistry!
Both ladies have a beautifuly simple yet magical style. The are both HUGE role models of mine!
What do you all think of my try at that kind of style. I think I might try to write and illustrate my own version of "Snow White."

i love this idea and your unique design style, pure genius!! but my suggestion don't do snow white (it is the scariest disney movie!!) i would suggest doing beauty and the beast (the most magical disney movie and the only one that the original fairy tale has a happy ending and isn't too dark), but i look forward to seeing more work from you!!

Thank you! This scene is definetly based on Sleeping Beauty. Walt Disney originally wanted to do a scene like this for Snow White, but I imagine the idea was scrapped because the animators hadn't quite gotten the hang of animating two people dancing like this!

Lol this is nicely colored! I remember reading about that too! They also wanted to do it for Cinderella, but they stuck with "So This is Love" since it was more down to Earth.

i think that if you wrote and illustrated something in this style you should draw that once upon a matress thing seeing that is your own story. Everyone has already heard snow white so they might find it boring, and you need to follow guide lines while writing it which would be no fun, so go with your original idea and prepare for the insanity! XD

You put two Peeps on a plate facing each other, and into each Peep, stick a toothpick, diagonally upwards (this is the "knight's lance). Then you position them so that the tips of their "lances" are touching, pop 'em in the microwave, and see which Peep wins (this is especially fun if the Peeps are different colors, and you and someone else have each claimed one).
Plus they taste much better microwaved than raw.
