Description I haven't drawn Dreamkeepers fan art in faaaaaaaaar too long. And this image has been rolling around in my head for months. Finally, I've put it to paper and finished it.

For those unfamiliar, these are the big villains of David and Liz Lillie's "Dreamkeepers".

Behold, the battle of the dark gods: Void and Nabonidus! (Left to right, respectively)

In the forgotten past, Nabonidus opened the way for Lord Void and the Nightmare hordes to invade the Dreamworld. But after their victory and Void left to corrupt another realm, Nabonidus seized control of the hordes and ruled all as an immortal emperor. But at some point, he was overthrown and the Nightmares nearly vanquished, allowing the Dreamkeepers to flourish again. Yet the Lovecraftian horrors survived, festering in the darkness. Nabonidus plotted his rise once more, manipulating and corrupting the Dreamkeepers at every level of society. Soon, his dark plans would culminate, and even the troublesome Troika resistance would be unable to stop him.

But unbeknownst to almost all, Lord Void was summoned back to the Dreamworld with a foul ritual. Furious at the disastrous failure that had fallen in his absence, he set once more to reclaim lordship over the Nightmares and utterly reduce the world to ashes. With the hordes watching below, the two dark gods battled in the skies in a tremendous show of force. Yet neither could overcome the other, forcing a begrudged stalemate and temporary accord until the Dreamkeepers are defeated again.

And the next time, only one god would remain.

I love great villains. And I love stories with two contending villains. And really I love these two baddies.
One a sinister and abyssal force of utter destruction, seeing worlds beyond yet to conquer.
The other an mysterious being with designs to forever dominate both Nightmare and Dreamkeeper.

It's impossible to decide which one I like more.

Void and Nabonidus belong to and Vivid Publishing.

Oooh, very nice artwork! Dreamkeepers has some fantastic villains, some of which I'd root for as much as our main characters, hehe! I love the little subplot about the nightmares own little power struggle; They'd ought to be very careful that they don't make our heroes jobs any easier and off one another too much! XD

Thank you!

Fantastic villains indeed!

I find it an interesting situation: when the good guys don't get along, we audience members get all worried and upset. "They're going to kill you! Get you heads out of your butts!"
But when the bad guys fight each other, that's when it gets really intriguing...

It seems like you created quite a fun handful of engaging villains for your Sly Cooper comic to give Sly a run for his money, that certainly has a very fun tonality with it's cartoon vibe interspersed with a kooky variation of noire and thievery;I need to read it properly, but would you be interested in a text based interview by any chance? You can find plenty of examples on my page and I've done ones with Dave/Liz Lillie and Tracy Butler among others in the past.

Very interested. I've read a few of your interviews - they look like a lot of fun, and a great way for people to get to know other artists. I'd be honored to participate.

Ah,then you've got a good idea how they generally go! I should re-read your comic since my memory of earlier pages is rusty. I do imagine this will take a while, do you have any PDF or compilation versions or should I just get going on the uploaded format as is? I am very much looking forward to it!

As of right now... no, I don't think I do have any compilations. I should probably do something like that, if only for my own ease of access.

But don't wait on me, I have links and stuff set up for each page here on dA. X)

Alright then! I'll get cracking sometime on the comic properly sometime within the next month or so! Do try and understand that I'm currently in College and on top of that I don't want to neglect my own creative drive too much. 8 ) I am looking forward to it though!

I'm very impressed just how much you've improved and how you have such a solid handle on the figures of the beloved characters from the games themselves alongside your own interesting characters.

Haha! Don't even worry about it. I am in college too, and it is currently overpowering my creative energies. But I shall engage emergency reserves to keep myself driving onward. X)

I do love how I've improved as well. It just goes to show that with concerted effort and consistency, you can make amazing strides forward. Even with things you've never done before.

Wow, an amazing image of those twwo nightmares, but a question, did Void look like that when he is going to attack or use power plast or something like that in the comics?

ConnorDavidson In reply to davidshadow275 [2017-01-12 03:10:54 +0000 UTC]

Actually, we have no idea what Void "truly" looks like. He is a "void"...hehehe...and he hasn't actually been shown in full manifestation yet. The battle was only seen from a distance in the comics. This my "artist's interpretation".

Hot damn, I can't remember the last time I saw fanart of these two battling it out, let alone of this quality. Well done!

And, personally, I'd rather Nabonidus live and Void fall. Because if Void lives, nobody does. With Nabonidus, at least there will always be a chance for someone to rise up and overthrow him again.

ConnorDavidson In reply to Quad-Pulsation [2017-01-11 17:52:07 +0000 UTC]

I don't think I've ever seen any - which is part of the reason I was so excited to make it.

Glad you like!

I hear you. Nab's charismatic and pragmatic. He isn't so concerned with mindless destruction (though I'm sure he doesn't plan to leave many survivors.) And he's got that classic them of a villain using people and wants to make the main character join him. And frustrated by ambitious underlings. Always a fun theme.

Still, there's also something so appealing to me about a villain who is "beyond" the scope of most characters, like Darth Nihilus, Thanos, Sauron and Morgoth. The mystery, the threat, and the knowledge a reader has that there's a greater evil beyond what all the other characters understand.

Indeed. Hardly anyone knows just how powerful Nabonidus and Void truly are. Nainso will likely figure it out first before anyone else.
