Description This is the Iron Curtain, or at least, part of it.

This barrier of concrete and steel was what divided Europe for 45 years, first metaphorically and then physically. This is the Berlin Wall's bigger, longer brother stretching from the north of Germany at Potenitz to Mittelhammer in the South. At 1378 Km long this border between East and West Germany was erected in the name of the "Anti-Facist Protection Wall", known simply to every German as "die Grenze". Along with the Berlin Wall the aim was to stop the "brain drain" of professionals and skilled workers from East to West.

Hotensleben, Germany.

Well, this how my trips to Germany started, when I saw your image of the watchtower at Walbeck. Which by the way, has been dismantled since my last visit. It's been numbered up so may be heading for a museum.

I'll hopefully be back there in September to finish of the Grenze.
