Hello. Actually, in this old tutorial, all I used are the most basic brushes in Photoshop. The simple brushes set will work for the most part, I rarely ever use any fancy brushes but others may. In here, all I used was the simple, bold brush, and then blurred with the blur tool. Depending on the program you use you may or may not have the same brushes. For photoshop, I use the basic brush set, for Corel Painter, I recommend the watercolor brushes for coloring. Though in Painter the brushes are drastically different from Photoshop.

Β  I'll give your advise a whirl Β and I'll gladly show u what my outcome is in time <3 Β  Thanks againΒ  Β

No problem. Most of us are self taught, don't worry about any professional training. You just need practice. When I first started drawing, there was no one to answer my questions either, so I'm always glad to help.

i nearly do it that way already, but i never thought it through, i just did. iΒ΄ll try to do it step by step your way the next time, cause i think your hair looks a bit better than mine. thanks a lot for letting me have a look over your shoulder ;D

Base color--> big brush for the strands--> blur --> draw the strands again for more depth --> highlight. Nice. Im having a trouble coloring a realistic hair. I might as well give this one a try.

Thanks for posting this. I'd been having trouble with hair but this helped immensely, although my uploaded pic seems to lack the depth and detail I see on my art PC (hope its just the crappy monitor on this PC). My pic is here [link]

Thanks again.

CodenameParanormal In reply to Lesleigh63 [2008-08-17 04:30:30 +0000 UTC]

glad it helped i like ur pic, just don't try to highlight everything that's all and this tutorial is acyually more for semi realism and beginners... from what i see from ur pic, u were going for more of a photo realism... in that case, try these tutorial from a friend of mine [link] [link]

i don't see too much problems with ur hair, but the over loading details on the hair don't go well with the almost blured skins. good luck

Hey, thanks so much for the feedback, Sky. I really appreciate it.

I have toned back the highlights on the hair (did look a little 'bleached' out now that you mention it). Guess I was too close to it to notice.

Thanks again.

[I haven't bothered to repost the pic probably won't until I finish the whole thing].

But maybe I'll try.

Does it take to long for you to paint hair?
